I won’t try to wrap up my life with diabetes into a neat package, because this disease is anything but neat. What I’ve compiled, though, is a list of the things I hear constantly, some of them ignorant questions, some genuine, and the answers to those questions.

Everybody was super mean to Paula Deen when she announced she had type 2 diabetes. But now she's lost weight so we can all be nice to her again! Yay?
My dad's illness was a dull hum in the background of my childhood and I promised myself I'd never marry a man who had it, too.
