I used to feel humiliation recalling all of it — like I’d somehow deserved the bullying — but now I just feel sadness for that poor girl I used to be.
Most of what I wanted was a reaction, because it indicated that I was the boss of SOMETHING. The bigger the reaction, the more fun the game was for me.

Every day people go in to work at jobs they can’t afford to quit with co-workers who make a genuine effort to bully and humiliate them. Too often, fighting back isn’t an option, and even if it is, it’s not guaranteed to make a difference.

As a kid, I wouldn’t have DARED to ever speak to an adult that way. Except for that one time.
It’s a dangerous world to be gay, for all that people seem to think we live in an enlightened and safe era.
