If Penelope could walk around and do her thing, make friends and continue to be sweet and affectionate, then it was on me to get over my misery and move forward.
I had plenty of time to prepare for the blindness that would creep in slowly during my 20s, first eradicating my nighttime and peripheral vision and eventually, in my 30s, my central vision.
Nervous for the upcoming date, I confided in a friend. She asked me how he would know if I was attractive.
And sadly, nope, that's not a headline from "The Onion" -- we only wish it were.
They seem to think they're joking around when they ask me how many fingers, or if I can smell them from across the room, but to me it feels similar to the bullying I experienced on the playground as a child.
Despite needing them desperately, I can't seem to hold on to a pair of glasses for more than six months.
