Every comment is a brick in the bridge to whatever comes next for us.
This week's randomness:
Somebody cut my arm with a box-cutter or razor blade or something on the street as I walked past them. I didn't wait to tell the police because I was in a hurry to get to a meeting and I love my meetings. I put hydrogen peroxide and bandaids on it and it seems totally fine.
I wondered if maybe I was unknowingly swinging my arms wildly as I walked down a crowded sidewalk or what else made this person pick me. (That reminds me: Do you know that thing you can do to quickly cut through a crowd, where you subtly windmill your lower arms as you walk and people just naturally part to let you through? Try it sometime when you are in need and let me know if it works for you.)
ALSO THIS WEEK, l didn't have a chance to go to any of the Fashion Week shows I've been invited to -- not one, so I've been catching up on them with the help of Jacquelin's roundups.
BUT: I finally rode my Electra bike home. Down the West Side Highway without a helmet. Don’t yell at me -- Olivia already did that. Emily was getting sick of not being able to close my office door without maneuvering the big beautiful bike around and I wanted to at least ride it once before the weather changes too much and that was the day I had time to do it. Now it is beautifying my apartment instead.
LET'S SEE. You were mentioned in the article in the New York Times on Sunday, where I (inarticulately) said: "I post this open thread at the beginning of every weekend, where I’ll write something that happened to me during the week or something I’m feeling." And I told them that sometimes I get a thousand responses here, so make that true by commenting just the word "hi" or whatever until it gets to 1,000 comments, ok? Ok, great.
I also talked to the NYT about the following things, which maybe you'd like to talk about today:
- What's your favorite kind of tea?
- Do you like oysters?
- Do you ever act like a tourist in your own town?
- Do you exercise on the weekend?
- Do you ever show up at a friend's house unannounced? How would you feel if a friend regularly did that to you?
If those topics bore you to tears, let's talk about something else. Anything else. Tell me and each other the random things that happened to you this week, talk about your overall mood right now, ask for help on a silly little or a heavy big issue. Anything you write here is valid and welcome and relatable, and this open thread wouldn't be the same without it.
To start, help me out with this, if you like: About a month ago, I gave my friend a gift certificate (the most I've ever spent on a gift certificate in my life) just as a random thank-you present and never heard anything from her about it. I am concerned that she didn't get it. Jennifer dropped it off at the front desk of her office. How would you go about figuring that out or would you just let it go and figure, universally speaking, that it got to the person it was meant to get to or what?
Thanks in advance for your help and your hellos. Hello!
