Morning Faces Gallery 2 (Starring YOU and Courtney Love!)

You are so damn wonderful (and brave like superheroes -- hoho). After we put up your Morning Faces last week, we were inundated with more and more photographs, taken by you, of yourselves, immediately upon waking in the morning -- without even using the setting where you can see how you look as you take it, you iPhoners. And believe me, I can tell the difference, having taken way too many an image of myself (all for work, of course) both with and without that setting. Every time she turns around, Olivia's inbox is full of your dilated pupils and generally-bleary-eyed GORGEOUS selves and your stories of how you got to be that way.

Among the submissions, I saw some famous faces. (And a big thank you to ABC and to KTLA and to Alice@97.3  for doing yours too. So cool.) We will be showing you more of those as we go along with this series. In this batch, two of our contributors came through with theirs, one unprompted (Courtney Love) and one with LOTS of begging first (Cat Marnell).

Please enjoy looking through them and, if you are inspired to send yours in, fill up the inbox even further at Olivia@xojane.com. She won't mind. And I will loooooove seeing you.

  • 8:00 am,  Seattle

I fell asleep sometime around 11pm watching Law & Order: CI and woke up SO not wanting to get out of bed. I think I might have to put the coffee maker on my bedstand...

  • 7:00 a.m., Key West, FL

Last night I went to a friend's house for a Chopped Key West-themed dinner. Drank white wine, red wine, bubbles. Came home and wrote my column, Bitchin Paradise, because I think I'm way funnier when I write with a buzz. Then I fell asleep watching Designing Women. It takes me about 30 minutes to get ready in the morning, if you don't count the time it takes to choose what I'm wearing.

I went to bed at 5 am.  I'm on steroids temporarily for a health condition and it gives me insane insomnia!  I spent the whole night/morning watching only the first half of a reality tv show, getting bored, and then moving on to another one. repeat.
It takes me an hour to get ready in the morning if I shower.  Without a shower, it takes 20 minutes.

  • 7:58am,  San Francisco, CA

What I did last night: Went to a Girlie Swap of a friend of a friend's with my sister-in-law. I didn't find too much stuff as I think I was the only plus-size girl there. Did snag a few cute scarves through. Came home to catch up on Glee and The New Girl on my dvr while eating left over chinese food and then it was off to bed.

Morning Routine: Usually takes me 1 hour. This includes: shower, rummaging through my closet for something decent to wear, make-up and sometimes hair (depends on how long it takes me tackle my closet), and finally running around making sure I have everything I need for work.

  • Let me start by saying I can't believe I'm contributing to this goddamn gallery, which is the antithesis of literally everything I stand for -- namely GLAMOUR.

I ONLY agreed to do this when I saw Courtney did it -- I held out for weeks, even when Jane ordered me to send a photo! Like Sid Vicious, whose portraits hang above my bed, I do things MY WAY. Don't you forget it, Jane Pratt! [So if COURTNEY jumped off a bridge... Hmmm. Love you. ]

  • 8:45am, Chillicothe IL

It usually takes me 30 - 60 mins to get ready for work. I bartend, so i was working last night, got home about 3:20am.

  • 6:35 am.

Slept 8 hours. Let the doggies out to potty. Im ok with showing mi morning face. As long as it is washed, and I pull down the bun I tie my long hair up in when I go to bed. I don't wear make up everyday. I just have to have earrings on when I go out the door. It's the bare minimum for me to not feel "ugly".

Headed to bed at 2am after doing some grassroots political stuff but then the baby woke up so I actually didn't get to sleep until closer to 4am. Cottage cheese, peanut butter and water as my before bed snack. Then one of the kids had a nightmare and I was up again at 6am. A crazier night than usual. It usually takes me 5-10 minutes to get ready in the morning: untangle hair and get it off my face (for a day of homeschooling my kids, cooking and online work), brush+floss, a quick face scrub, some rose lotion, perhaps lip balm if chappy. I only really do make up for dates with my husband and church but when I do put on make-up it takes about 10 minutes (cover up, tinted lotion, homemade cornstarch+cocoa face powder, a dab of blush, curl the eyelashes and mascara..sometimes eyeshadow and tinted lip balm. I never straighten or blow dry my hair so that keeps things quick.

  • 8.30am, Brescia (Italy)

Ready to get my morning shower after a night or reeding. I'm kinda a book warm so my eye sockets are for that and not to party hard!

  • 10 a.m Lyon, France

Yesterday in bed with the cat i'm taking care of for a week, you can see my eyes sparkling with love for my new little buddy named "Mimine" which means basically "pussycat". I think I might have a bit of rimmel left on my eyes, no lipstick

The evening before, I went to pick up the cat. Have a little snacking and drinking with some friends at home, then watch a serie, smoke cigarettes in bed, woke up every hours to check if the cat was still in my bed ! and it was :)

It takes me 1hours to get ready including breakfast and washing my hair if I need to, if I don't wash my hair I use this time to drink my coffee in bed and read my email.

    Marjolaine

  • 7:00 am,  Greenville, South Carolina.

I'm a full-time college student and I spent last night in, reading for my Faulkner class (ugh) and browsing Tumblr.

It usually takes me about forty minutes to get ready after a shower--mainly because i blow-dry and style my hair which has a mind of its own.

    Amanda

  • Simi Valley, CA

Take a look at my 79-year-old obviously unBotoxed face. It ain't grand but I've learned to accept old age.

    Marly

  • 9:30 am Reston, Virginia

I am thinking about how BADLY I don't want to get up and work out (followed by ballet class at noon).  I have worked out every day for the last two weeks.  I hate it but I am too vain to stop because I love the results.

The night before I had hung out at home with my roommates.  They're a jolly couple who love to stay up late and have good chats.  We drank some wine and went to bed around 1am.   I then worked on a short story for a little bit, having felt very inspired.

It takes me anywhere between 10 and 30 minutes to be ready in the morning.  I've got the shower down to a five minute fine art.  If I do make up, it is hastily done in two minutes (sometimes at work, often in the car).  I have big windows in my bedroom so I got lucky with the light in this here.

  • 8:20am  Burlington, Vermont

What I was doing last night: Went out for Indian food with my husband,  read my kindle in the bathtub, prepped a birthday present for my BFF  (Happy Birthday Steph!)

Beauty regimen: I am a night showerer,  so in the morning  I do moisturizer, blush and a bit of eyebrow pencil.  Also I wear glasses so I consider that makeup of sorts.  10 min tops and I'm out the door.  If it's a special occasion, I can take up to 30 min.

Etc: I am wearing my favorite frog pajamas.

  • 6:20 on SATURDAY

I forgot to turn my work alarms off. My boyfriend and I had taken a friend out for drinks at the Black Cat the night before and had got home TWO HOURS prior to my waking. I did scrub off my heavy midnight makeup with those wipes - ah my dark, puffy Perry Mason eyes and acne where I cup my chin all day for all the world to see and not care about as much as I do. This photo was mildly tolerated by my boyfriend and dog wedged behind me.

It takes me about 15 minutes to smear on some undereye concealer, liner and clothes. 20 if I can't find my tights.

  • 5:03 a.m., Alexandria, Virginia

Last night I "cooked dinner" (aka reheated leftover pizza) and caught up on The Good Wife (oooh) and Gossip Girl (ahhh!).  But I also found out I've been invited to interview for my potential dream job, so this morning I actually woke up with a renewed sense of hope and purpose - even if my oh-so-tired bloodshot eyes aren't exactly reflecting those feelings.  Takes me about 20 minutes of snooze-button pushing to get out of bed and anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour to actually get ready, including the time it takes me to coax the laziest of lazy dogs out of bed to go out before I leave.

  • 6:02 am (would have been 5:02 but I despise the gym on Monday morning) Bellingham, WA

This lovely picture was taken on my least favorite day of the week MONDAY... Sunday evening I spent my time vegging out on left over Mexican food, watching the movie Moneyball, vegging some more on pasta and perusing the internet (xojane) while the boyfriend watched Survivorman.  All to try to amend my hangover from Saturday night.  Three words wine, beer and tequila.

During the week it takes me 30 minutes to get ready and I don't have to choose what to wear because I'm stuck wearing horrific polo t-shirts (health and wellness world).

  • 10am, West London

I've been waking up in this bed for almost 3 months since moving to London from Perth, Australia. It's a pretty comfy bed so far. The night before I had been watching Starship troopers and The Notorious Bettie Page, crawling into bed sometime around 3.30am. It takes me about and hour and a half to get ready in the morning. This of course includes half an hour of coffee drinking and  internet fun times. I wear make up every day, no matter where I'm going, I just don't feel awake until I've got my face on.

  • 7:15 am, Kuriyama-cho, Japan.

Last night, I was watching Miyazaki movies at my friend's place, then I came home at around 9. I was in bed by 10:30. Not the most exciting of nights, but whatever.

In the mornings, I normally shower, put some mousse in my hair, moisturize and apply mascara, so it takes about a half an hour from bed to door. If I laze around on the internet for a bit, maybe 45 minutes. :)

    Jericho

  • Well not really my morning face, but I just got my wisdom tooth removed and I was on some pain killers LOL.

    Is this real life?

  •  1:00 pm, Manhattan

Swear my eyes aren't usually this tiny but damn, it is BRIGHT at this hour. Talked to my boyfriend and started watching Misfits last night, probably till 4 or so. I'm on sleeping pills to help my depression-related insomnia, but the one I'm taking now seems to be working too well; even after 9 hours of sleep, I wake up staggering like I'm sloshed until I take my antidepressant. I'm a total makeup addict, so it usually takes me about half an hour to get ready if I apply my usual "face": BB cream, concealer, blush, highlighter, contour if I wake up looking too puffy, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, setting powder. On a good day I can get away with just concealer, mascara, and powder and be out the door in 10. My hair's pretty short at the moment so it takes a couple minutes to style, tops.

  • 1:30 pm
I went to sleep at about 5 am after drawing and writing. I'm staying at a hotel in Downtown Manhattan before I move into my new loft.

  •  11:15 am (I went to bed at 3 for no real reason)

I'm actually staying at my dad's house (the house I grew up in) in Pittsburgh right now, taking care of my dad. I'm splitting time between here and DC because my dad is needing some more hands-on looking after than I can do from DC. I'm in a bed in my old bedroom, with my dogs (you can see one of their butts here). It's cold, hence the hoodie.
What you were doing the night before: nothing interesting. Some work, watching tv etc.
How long it takes you to get ready in the morning: I work at home, so uh, as soon as I'm upright, I'm all set. But if I have to leave the house, maybe 20 mins? 5 mins for a little makeup and hair, 5 to get dressed, 10 to let dogs out and feed them, 5 to get my shit together. I'm really low maintenance, which is aided by how much I hate showering.

    Nichole
  • Woke up: Sunday morning (cue Kristofferson singing "Sunday morning coming down") 8:30am

Where: home in our tiny-ass Hollywood ghetto bungalow with our dog who actually sleeps like this sometimes (in a bed way too small for all three of us) and my husband in the background still asleep for another few hours.

Night before: watching 48 hours mystery (our "stories") until falling asleep. I actually remembered to take off my make-up half assed with Josie Maran wipes (which rock for lazy night routine people like me).

How long to get ready in the morning: depends on if I wash my hair (which I only do twice a week). Usually around 45 minutes but I can be quicker if I have to be.

  • 7:45  London
Last night I went with my sister in law, we saw The Artist at the cinema and after the film a drunken stranger burped in my face (what a charmer). I got home and did some outrageous flirting with a boy I am perusing through Twitter and went to sleep around 2am.
It usually takes me about 30 minutes to get ready in the morning, I have to have foundation on before I leave the house because my skin is really gross, other than that I am quite low maintenance. I wash my hair daily otherwise it's a grease-ball but I save time by drying it with the car heaters during the drive to work.

  •  9:00 am North Florida

Last night I had some lady friends over, ate pizza and salad, and watched Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead before going to bed around 1am. It usually takes me about 30 minutes to get ready unless I have to deal with the dreaded washing/styling of the hair, which adds at least another 30 minutes to my routine.

  • 1250pm Nashville, TN

my first morning in a few weeks to truly sleep in so I took full advantage of it. Last night I worked a double waiting tables, had dinner with my boyfriend and went out with my roommate. We ran into old college friends at a bar in midtown-so shots (many) were taken. I'm debating on getting up for my hangover staple Taco Mamacita. I rarely take picture without smiling so there you go. My nest of a bed is heaven

  • 10:00 am  San Francisco

Stayed up til 3 watching It's Complicated on HBO.  Totally not worth it.  The movie was very bleh.

It takes me almost no time to get ready.  I wash my face and brush my teeth, and that's about it.  I don't really wear makeup.  Last time I did was on new years eve.  Before that was a wedding in October.  The next time i will likely put makeup on will be for valentines day.  I guess I manage to wear makeup every two months or so and I like that.  :). I'm lazy like that.

  • 10:45  Washington DC

The night before I drank a bottle of prosecco  with an old friend. It can take me between 45 minutes and an hour and a half to get ready, depends if I'm going to work or going out, I guess.

    Katherine

  • 7:47 a.m., Fort Lauderdale, FL

Spent last night in bed marathoning Kitchen Nightmares and Family Guy on Hulu with my honey. We were falling asleep around 9:30! We both work full time and take care of my 2 year old, so the rest was much-needed. I normally wake up for work at 4:00a.m., so my routine consists of Mary Kay undereye calming gel, and tinted moisturizer if it's not too humid outside.

  • This is my pre coffee/get 4 kids to school/10 hour workday face!!

  • 920am Maritimes (Canada)

Last night I went to a dinner party in a coastal town. There were a bunch of French girls and my Acadian boys. It takes me no time to get ready, since I don't wear makeup. So let's say the length of a song.

  •  8:30 on Sunday morning (yes, those are snowman pillowcases and a lime green blanket - classy!) , in my bed in Cleveland

Last night my husband and I did dinner and a move with friends; I was asleep by 11. Hawt.  That's my sexy college sweatshirt that I slept in; my husband is a lucky man. It takes me an hour to get ready in the morning.

OK it's not on my pillow, I sat up because I wake up tres disoriented and I always forget where I am. ALWAYS. it's like effing Memento over here when I get up. ALSO: I'm a horrible insomniac so I sleep...whenever.  Earlier today (which would be last night for me, if you're using going to sleep as the demarcation between yesterday and today) I hadn't slept in about 40 hours so I was talking to my partner on messenger, watching Top Chef, and writing a knitting pattern, while waiting for unisom to kick in. my life is a thrill a freaking minute, let me tell you. it takes me about 15 minutes to get ready if I'm going to the market or the drug store. if I'm going to see actual people, it takes about an hour, not including a shower. 40 minutes of that is just blow drying my hair. I just do basic makeup no matter where I'm going. almost all foundation winds up looking orange on my face, and my freckles are going to pop through anyway, I'm not coordinated enough to do anything with eyeliner other than a smudge around the outside corners.

  • 7:45 am Portland OR

I woke up around 7:45ish to my 2 year old whining through the baby monitor "mommmmyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy"

The night before I was packing, since we're moving. And I might have had a bit of gin & juice

It usually only takes me about 30 minutes to go from shower to leaving the door.

  •  5:00 am Hollywood, CA.

Last night I had my 25th yoga class in a row since I'm participating in a 40 day yoga challenge being put-on by the yoga center/hippie village I go to. After yoga I went to CVS and picked up the Garnier BB cream Cat wrote about yesterday (also, fully rocking a Cat recommended scrunchy in this photo) and then came home and talked to a boy on the phone even though I changed his name "Ignore" in my address book. It's not working. Yet. Fingers crossed.

It usually takes me about 30 minutes to get ready in tue morning. Half that time is spent singing in the mirror though.

  •  7:30 Tyne, UK

I had a pretty early night, but couldn't even open my eyes for this picture. I'd just woken up from a dream where I worked on a cookie stall and an American woman kept stealing from us. Surreal. I accidentally fell asleep again right after I took this.

If I want to, and don't bother showering, I can be ready in 15 minutes. Usually it's more like 45 though.

I stayed till midnight working on assignments that would be due the next morning. Woke up couple of hours later , I say around 6 just to get ready for my dreadful day of school!

  • This is me and my bearded dragon at about 7 in the morning. He has his very own pillow and sleeps with my boyfriend and me in the bed :)

  • Here is my face without makeup. Woke up, was hungry so I stuffed a snyders pretzel in my mouth. Below is the result.

  • 6:30 am

I am on my side of the bed and woke up next to two dogs instead of just one.  When I went to bed it was dog free and just me.

The night before chatted on the phone and chatted with Jecca drinking BV and Diet Coke.

Morning routine is waking up, drinking coffee and playing around on the computer until I get bored or have somewhere to go.  When I am being good I go for a walk and work out, but I haven't been good for the last two weeks...BAH!

  • 6:30 am - Seattle

Less than 48 hours after an emergency appendectomy. I spent the night (day) before surrounded by pillows, watching Bravo shows while stoned out of my mind on oxy. I kept having all of these super realistic dreams in which I was doing of these cool and interesting things, but in reality I was just watching Tabitha's Salon Takeover while people brought me the bottom half of bagels (sorry to everyone about the bag full of bagel tops thats now in the freezer..).

It takes me about 15 minutes to get ready if I am just trying to get out of the house, but ideally I need about 45 minutes to hit all of my bases (good hair, good make up, cute outfit). When I spend 15 minutes I usually have to prioritize one area over the others.

  •  6:30 am, in my own bed (alone as usual, except for the dogs) in Las Vegas, NV

I had a boring night last night watching tv with my nephews.
If I do makeup, its 30 minutes from shower to out the door.  No makeup shortens it to 15-20 minutes.

  • Mom didn't want to wake up :P but I made her get up at 8:30 a.m.. We woke up in her lynnwood Washington home in my mommas bed. The night before we hung out after she got back from school, watched some tv and ate some of my homemade salad. We went to bed around 1:00 am, but usually stay up later. We thought we would want our beauty rest for this beautiful morning we were expected to be having. It takes momma about 20 minutes to get ready, she pretty fast and wants to be done with the task. As for me I enjoy putting colorful craps all over my face, so it takes me between 20-40 minutes (she chimed in hours) depending on how glam I'm going. If you need more info let me know. Thanks!

  •  7:10 am Lafayette, California

The night before I did my usual. Watch Jeopardy, then Tmz, then Chelsea Lately and then a recorded show on my DVR and then turn to CNN to watch the silvefox, Anderson Cooper, as I fall asleep before 11 pm. I live a very boring life for an almost 29 year old in 3 weeks.
