Jane Pratt, Worst Mom In The World: Testing vs. FUN Edition

Okay, I've had this Windows phone for like 2 weeks now (why do I even try to reference events in terms of time when I have no sense of it -- has it been a week? 3 weeks? I don't know -- I just asked Madeline and she said I've had it for two weeks, so okay) and, as is my way, have not taken the time to learn what I can do with the thing.

Problem is: Charlotte has been doing this 4th-grade testing all the NY public school kids are doing and so we are supposed to help keep them focused by putting them to bed early (check! I'm tired by 8:30 pm these days), not giving them a ton of distractions, and feeding them healthy breakfasts (if eggs are next-to-last on the ingredients list on the foil packet inside the pre-wrapped 7 oz. single-serving EZ-open re-sealable family-pack of WHATEVER, does that count as a healthy protein-packed breakfast? Say yes).

The keeping her focused thing has been tough, as all I have wanted to do is to use her to set up and show me what all this phone does. So, today being the last day of testing, I am finally able to follow my motherly instincts and give her the phone to play around on.

Of course, I'm no dummy, so I am giving it to her open to this games page with the avatar ready for avataring just to suck her in. Customize away, dear Charlotte. Can't wait!

A question: Which do you think will actually benefit a child more in life, multiplication tables or being extremely adept at using new technology? It's a no-brainer, right?
