Jane Pratt, Worst Mom In the World: Masturbation Edition

Charlotte's teacher sent home a note yesterday asking the 4th-graders to bring in a sample of writing from one of the adults in their families. Char was excited to bring in this copy of the editor's letter from JANE magazine where I wrote about her being born. "The purpose is to show the variety of writing, not share the content," says this note that is likely too small for you to read here. HOWEVER, the assignment asks that there be no "age-inappropriate information lurking within." Okay, so I made mention of masturbation within the same piece (of course I did). Now, I don't consider that inappropriate for 8- and 9-year-olds and have talked to my daughter about it plenty. Do you think that's "inappropriate"? And will I be setting Charlotte up for potential embarrassment by letting her bring in the article she wants to show? Advice or opinions, please! Note: I used the word masturbate, rather than any colloquialism, which I think makes a difference. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. xo
