What It Felt Like To Meet My Real Life Role Models For International Women's Day

I think I was most star-struck by Zaha, a fascinating and daunting figure who has always intrigued me...

Talented female filmmaker Kathryn Ferguson made a short film for Selfridges to mark International Women’s Day and guess what? Yours truly was part of it!

We developed a list of questions to put to four inspiring women: Caryn Franklyn from All Walks Beyond the Catwalk, fashion designer Bella Freud, architect Zaha Hadid and Sharmadean Reid of Wah Nails.

The questions were designed to start a conversation between the four women around the ideas of role models and mentoring – we wanted to know if they’d had role models or inspiring female figures in their lives and careers who’d encouraged them to achieve their impressive levels of success, and if they, in turn, see themselves as role models or mentors to the next generation.

On the day, each of the four women arrived to film their section. I think I was most star-struck by Zaha, a fascinating and daunting figure who has always intrigued me and yes, is one of my real-life role models. All four women gave incredibly thoughtful and thought-provoking answers to our questions and I am SO proud of being part of such an incredible project.

You can watch the film here and find out more about the project over on SHOWStudio. And, AND it’s playing in Selfridges’ Oxford Street window so if you’re in the area, please go along and watch it!

So I'd really like to know: who have been your role models throughout your life - have they been people you knew or fictional characters (one of mine is Buffy, obvs) and do you act as a role model or mentor to anyone? Let's share!
