My boat race isn't really working for me today, so instead you get a recycled holiday photo of me pretending to be a Saturday Night Gameshow Hostess next to a tank. You're welcome.
Bonjour (nope, not in Paris I’m afraid, but just trying to add some continental flair to the proceedings)...
We’ve had LOADS of fantastic comments this week, and as ever, I’ve learnt far more from you than you’ve probably learnt from me, which doesn’t seem like a fair trade at all.
Here’s some of the things that you taught me…
That occasionally something on our site makes a teeny bit of difference
We had loads of comments on Alisande’s brilliant follow up to her piece on abortion rights in Ireland. My all-time favourite (and maybe my all-time favourite comment so far) from Tinkers:
I just set up a monthly standing over to Abortion Support Network. This is just infuriating. Thank you so much for writing this.
Thank you Alisande, for writing this piece, and thank you Tinkers, for donating to Abortion Support Network . I love it when a plan comes together *madly cackles and rubs hands together, Bond villan stylee*.
That Tory drunk-tweeted Clare Balding
Ok this happened when I was on holiday, but I only came across it today, and it made GOL (Guffaw Out Loud, obvs).
YES! I've been waiting for this. I love CBeebies, as I like to call her. She's literally made the Olympics for me, and I drunk tweeted her as much. Woo Balding!
To put a context to this, we had just made Ms B our honorary Cool Female Olympian We Love, so there was a context to this. Tory didn’t just announce this apropos of nothing…
Any age is a good age for a nose piercing
Kelly was agonising over her decision to get her nose pierced, and one of our commenters, Sarah, also wants to get hers done, but was worried that she was too old at 39.
Not so, as Buttercup_Rocks pointed out:
Got mine done shortly before my 39th birthday for three reasons: 1) I'd wanted it done since I was in my early 20s; 2) I'd been haunted by the phrase, "you'll regret it when you're 40" and realised I could carry it off just fine at 40; and 3) I decided if I didn't do something to piss off my parents before I turned 40 I probably never would. I'm 53 now and still adore my piercing, (though I too favour a stud).
Of course, because I'm incredibly nosey (ha!), what I now what to know is if Sarah decided to get hers done or not. Sarah, let us know, send us a picture, or even better, a video of your piercing experience. Or can I just come with you and watch when you have it done? No? Too much?
Mums are heroes
Veronica’s 25! Pregnant! Dumped! diaries are nearly drawing to a close, but your hatred of her wayward baby daddy Dan is coming on in leaps and bounds. Veronica’s mum is also getting some serious props for being something of a hero, as Miss_dot pointed out:
So love that your mum got on the phone to him. My mum offers to do that all the time for me (usually for nothing as serious as this, which is why I have not yet taken her up on it, ha!) But mums are awesome, aren't they?
Yes, yes they are.
Well, that brings this week's edition of What I Learnt From xoJane to a close. What did you learn from xoJane this week? What were your favourite comments? Let me know!
