Ashley’s piece on how he gets frustrated when people make assumptions about sexuality based on appearance triggered a fascinating range of responses and highlighted how complex this issue can be.
We liked the sound of Lucy Gerry’s gang of camp-but-straight male friends; “Listen hard enough you will hear an inappropriate comment being made followed by a loud FNAR. Follow that sound you'll find a group of giggling and pouting men that are my friends! It seems they try to out-camp each other a lot and the girlfriends and wives are left in the corner, like Baby.” Can we hang out with you and your mates please Lucy?
Alisande asked “Can I call you a faux-mosexual, cos I've been trying to make that word happen for years. In a praise-y way, obvs.” To which Ashley replied “FAUXMOSEXUAL!! I LOVE THAT!! I will definitely help you to make that word happen. That's totally my new sexuality.” Good, glad that’s sorted then.
Squeamish Kate wrote about how the Brighton Women’s Collective are showing support for the staff who work at the BPAS clinic by baking them cakes – a simple but powerful statement of solidarity.
Crindee Buth’s comment was indicative of the general readers’ response: “It's scary that anyone actually wants to take reproductive rights backwards almost half a century, but how wonderful to fight it with cake. it's great to see the people who work hard and endure so much to help women get this kind of support, and this is clearly a great way to draw some much-needed attention to the issue.”
Hmm, what else? Well Scarlet gave us a fascinating glimpse behind the doors of a Japanese Love Hotel. Commenter Dulcie asked what we were all thinking: “These places sound hilarious, and like a handy way to get out of domestic boredom with your other half, but would anyone else be totally paranoid that there was a camera in the room? I'd have to bring my own anti-bugging devices and sweep the place for recording equipment :)”
I talked about my hate/hate relationship with exercise and Belle encouraged me to push my workout that little bit harder to chase down those elusive endorphins “Well, I'm pretty sure that means you aren't exercising long or hard enough (could be either). You also might want to switch your workouts up every now and then. Do some different stuff.” Ok, I will try, I promise.
