Keanu was one of my earliest crushes (you know who my first was…) when I saw him playing lucky lucky Martha Plimpton’s adorable slacker boyfriend in Parenthood. Then of course there were the Bill and Ted films, followed by a creditable attempt at Shakespeare in Kenneth Branagh’s Much Ado About Nothing, Point Break, Bram Stoker’s Dracula and My Own Private Idaho. You see I prefer mid-90s Keanu with the floppy hair and baggy jeans to Speed/Matrix Keanu.
Keanu stickers jostled for space with Eric Cantona ones on my pencil case and posters of him looking all puppy-dog-eyed adorned my bedroom walls. He seemed sweet and kind of goofy – perfect crush material.
I love that after the whole ‘sad Keanu’ meme thing, so many people came forward with anecdotes about his kindness and generosity, proving that the rumours that he is one of the nicest guys in Hollywood are true. Oh and Cheer Up Keanu day is June 15 - MY BIRTHDAY!
