I did not choose to live in New York for the conveniently located schools, unparalleled career opportunities, or the easily accessible art and entertainment. I chose to live in New York because of the parade of well-dressed pets strolling down the city sidewalks every day.
I’m the type of person to squeal “OOOH LOOK!!” and smile at stranger's dogs while sneaking Snapchats of them. I follow hedgehogs on Instagram and speak of my own pets like they are my children. Videos of baby animals eating snacks fill my heart with flowers. Pets are everything, and it is our responsibility to dress them in the cutest ensembles possible.
Have you ever seen a puppy wearing shoes? DID YOUR HEART IMPLODE IN YOUR CHEST?! If so, this article is for you and there’s still enough time to snatch up a holiday outfit for the fuzzy child in your life at PetSmart before Christmas. There are soooo many heart melting costumes and accessories to choose from!
First, let's take a look at my favorites, and then I’ll show you my puppy’s Christmas outfit. Squeee!! Leggooo…
Top Paw Pet Holiday Reindeer Costume, $7.99 - $8.79
Cue the scream crying – this costume is for dogs with no dignity. I’m going to have a stroke. I can’t tell if this dog is completely fed up or feeling himself, but he is precious.
Top Paw Pet Holiday Snowman Costume, $7.99 to $8.79
Soft, gentle, snuggly little puppy, come into my arms right now! This picture demonstrates why our ancestors domesticated animals – to turn them into vessels of holiday cheer.
I personally think guinea pigs are just fat, longhaired rats, but that could be the New Yorker in me talking. Maybe I would like them more if they were dressed as elves at all times. Yeah, I would definitely like them more.
This tuxedo collar is for a classy James Bond dog that engages in spy activities when you leave the house. Try to tell me I’m wrong.
We’ve already mentioned the ability of dog shoes to put me into cardiac arrest, and socks have the same effect. These candy cane socks also perfectly match my princess’s holiday outfit perfectly.
Isabelle is my ten-year-old Shih Tzu and also my only reason to live. She is elegant with a defined sense of style and high standards for her wardrobe. I love her.
Shih Tzus are prone to respiratory problems because of their brachycephalic obstructive airways (aka flat faces), so walking them with a harness helps to avoid snorting fits. Because I’m an amazing dog mom, Isabelle’s harness is a candy cane dress. Martha Stewart is doing the damn thing – this harness/dress/miracle has structured ruffles and a precious multicolored bow. The harness itself is thick and sturdy, with two clips and Velcro straps for support. Here’s a closer look at the underside of this harness:

Isabelle never tries to fight her way out of it, and still looks comfortable during her walks. I obviously leave the dress on as an outfit throughout the day too. Oh, and can we please talk about the red gift bows in her hair? I mean…
You can still order (available) PetSmart costumes and accessories online to be delivered before Christmas, or you can receive a 10% off discount with an in-store pickup. I suggest the in-store pickup tactic to make sure you’re selecting the right size. Those of you living in small towns will probably still find these products on the shelves, like I did in my hometown PetSmart. Looking through the site I also noticed some craaaaazy markdowns because we’re only days away from the holidays.
Please, please, please attach some adorable animal pictures in the comments – I’m begging! Pets in costumes gain extra points, pets in costumes while posing for a studio photo shoot gain extra extra points. Begin…
