The Debutante cocktail (and look at my cool coaster!)
This is what I was drinking (and nearly knocking over with joy) last Saturday when Jessica Ennis, Mo Farah and Greg Rutherford all won GOLD for Team GB in the Olympic stadium. Magic.
Given that it was a first time Olympic gold for all three amazing athletes, it seemed apt to be drinking The Debutante on that auspicious night. I love a bit of themed drinking.
This was taken from the bartender’s bible, The Savoy Cocktail Book, which was first published in 1930 and contains 750 bizarre and brilliant drinks by Harry Craddock, the famed head barman of the Savoy’s American Bar. If you can find a copy on Amazon or eBay I thoroughly recommend it – there’s a cocktail for every possible occasion (including royal weddings and jubilees, and yes I’ve tried them all.)
The ingredients for The Debutante are: 1/3 gin 1/3 lemon juice 1/6 Amaretto 1/6 lime juice white of 1 egg
Pour into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake vigorously – until the outside of the shaker has misted up with the cold.
Strain into a cocktail glass.
Drink while singing tearfully along to the national anthem.
