Every once in a while I think I've got on some kind of really amazing outfit combo that I'd only think of and actually wear right in that moment. Such as now, when I have a wild one-off disco to go to in the ghetto. Why not wear a sleeveless vintage child's silk kimono over a '20s/'80s mesh lace slip dress with hot pink Japanese lace socks and shoes I'm supposed to return to PR but instead will wear out and try not to damage? Usually, when I'm in this kind of mood and put together something like this, I get to the party and I realize I look like a spaz, and not in a good way, especially when I look around and see everyone in a chill Alexander Wang scumbag costume. But then sometimes it actually works out, and people are dressed like wild rainbow scroungers who could care less about fashion (and are therefore quite stylish), and I feel great about my decision. Then I'm happy I decided to live a little.
I doubt I'll hear back from you in time to know if I'm headed for clown town or happyville. Still, I'm curious what your prediction is: Was this outfit a bad decision?
Hey Liz! This outfit was SO NOT a bad decision. I mean, there are a ton of folks that could put this thing on and it would be blarf city BUT not you. Why? Because when things come together so organically they can rarely be called mistakes. (And also you are so cute and are rocking this amazingly).
Really! Summer is the time for experimenting with fun outfits. It's hard to layer in the hot weather, but your light, sleeveless dress/kimono combo is all kinds of wonderful. I'm sure a lot of people will have a problem with the dark shoe/light outfit situation but chill guys! That's totally fine (just like it's fine to wear white year-round and mix navy with black). The little pink socks are really making the outfit for me though (socks are so important!). The only thing I would've done differently is thrown a lil' denim vest over it to tough it up and vibe it a bit more with the dark shoes. Not that it needs it though!
I hope the party was full of rainbow scroungers and not Wang scumbags! It's the summer of love after all!
