I had the best luck at the thrift store over the weekend! You know those days when all the polka dot fabrics you make a beeline for are actually attached to something cute, and everything is your size? Look at that haul -- I Got 3 dresses, 3 tops including that pink sweater with the bow which is by Tracy Reese and two pairs of shoes (the ones on the right are blue velvet and the pair on the left are Kenneth Cole). Plus, every time I turned around I was stumbling across Marc by Marc Jacobs, Betsey Johnson, vintage with elastic waists, life was GOOD.
Anybody can find something awesome at a retail store. But it feels so superior to wade into a murky quagmire of shapeless house dresses and stained cast-offs from the Dress Barn and come out with GOLD from them there racks.
Over the years, these arms have lovingly cradled so many secondhand treasures, but I think the happiest a thrift-store find ever made me was during the height of my adolescent "Rocky Horror Picture Show" phase when I found a screen-printed babydoll tee with the lips and logo in glitter red on front. Perfect for experimenting with sex and drugs at the midnight theater!
What's the most memorable item you've ever unearthed from your local thrift store, flea market, garage sale, dumpster?
