Saturday, my dear friend and hugely talented musician Thatcher Williams brought me to see Gillian Welch. Their sound is so hard to describe, but it's a mix of influences such as: Appalachian Music, Country-Rock, Folk and it's totally accoustic. They reminded me of Jonny Cash and June Carter-Cash and are in fact romantic partners as well as musical. Their sound is rural and dark, which fits perfectly with Welch's brilliant look and style. Think: Tim Burton meets Joni Mitchell.
And how amazing is this DIY video, in which Gillian and Dave show us how they coffee stained their album art-work?
"The Harrow & The Harvest" is a 2011 album released by American musician Gillian Welch. It was Welch's first album in eight years and was released on June 28, 2011. They've been ending their shows with a wicked cover of Jefferson Airplane's "White Rabbit."
