LOVE YOURSELF DIY Sequin Heart Shoe Clips

Hi guys. I think one of the first tings I pinned on my Rachel board on the xoJane Pinterest was a set of large red sequin heart shoes clips* on some sweet flats that looked like my kind of chilled-out party shoes. Naturally, as both a thrifty bitch and someone who views life as one big (or 54, 298 little) preschool craft project(s), I knew I could make those and had a hefty amount of faith in you, too.

And for the sake of the traditional overshare, as a child I used to regularly visit a pair of red sequin heart-shaped pasties in my mom's lingerie/sex accoutrement drawer. I was so obsessed that when I finally visited my first sex shop, I bought a pair of my own. Just like Mom! Why save it for the shrink when I can share it with the world, is what I sometimes say in fits and starts.

So maybe these are a little kinky to me. Whatever. Motivation shmotivation, let's hot glue some stuff.

*If you are a shopper and not a maker, heart shoes clips from ban.do are available here.

  • These make me pret-ty happy. In this gallery, I'll take you photo-step by photo-step through the process of making some for yourself. Or for a friend if they're not your style. NEXT

  • What You Need:

    1. Hot Glue Gun and Plenty of Glue Sticks.
Mine is pink, I have several because I can't ever find one when I need one. That's what I'm like, It's annoying.

    2.  1 Sheet of average craft felt.

    3. Patches or Appliques of Your Choice.
My choice is 1 1/2" red sequin heart appliques I found on Amazon.

    4. Shoe Clip Blanks.
Mine are authentic "Bluette Made In France" clips because that sounds fancy and I take it where I can get it. And I get it at TheBarretteFactory on Etsy.

  • 1. Lay your appliques out on your felt (yes, I'm really going step by step like this).
  • 2. Trace your appliques/patches with a pen or marker your can see well. I use a Sharpie (Sharpie, feel free to send me Sharpies). I know, I hold my pen really weird.

  • 3. Cut around these inside the line. They will be the backing of your clips and a little smaller is better than a little bigger so you won't see it peeking through from the front. Make sense?

  • 4. Observe your two hearts (I don't know). Ooo yeah, also cut into your felt heart at the top to acommodate the clip when it's closed. It needs to go a little deeper in the middle (if i had a nickel...).

  • 5. Determine the placement of your clip so you know where to squirt your hot glue.

  • 6. Gratuitous pink glue gun pic

  • 7. Place your clip on the glue. Press a little, but basically just let it dry. Hot glue knows its job.
  • 8. Shoot hot glue around the edge of your appliques and in the middle. Line up your felt heart and lay it on top.

  • 9. Press around to make sure everything is attached. So here's a little behind the curtain for you, I actually postpone and procrastinate DIY posts if my nail aren't done. Break down and do my nails, voila: no more excuses.

  • 10. Let these babies dry and you're all done.

  • I will put these on anything and everything, including sweaters and coats and stuff, I'm thinking. My crazy Adidas are my "street" shoes. I LOVE THE STREETS

  • This is the sweetest: use 2 sets of clips, one for the toes and one for the ankles. They'll hate to see you leave, but they'll love to watch you go.

  • This frame (painted by my niece Molly) was holding down my brown paper and snuck into a couple pics. The photo is a McPadden Nieces and Nephew Coney Island Day from a couple years ago, my favorite kind of day. I miss that pink hair. My husband looks so brutal!

  • My DIY real-glitter manicure is the "sugared fruit" of finger tips. All for you!
