I was flipping through April's Marie Claire over the weekend, when I came across this fashion spread prominently featuring the model's tattoos alongside the clothes. You hardly ever see exposed tattoos in fashion magazines, so I sort of thought being a model was like being a hooker, where you can't really work anywhere reputable once you've got ink. [Most (many?) of the models have tattoos, just in those girly places or like the nape of the neck where they can be easily airbrushed out. And who was that gorgeous bald model about 10 years ago with the tattoos on her skull? Eric -- you would know. Anyway, this is much bolder than the norm, which is awesome, as are you and this good post, Emily! --Jane]
But its working for this girl, Tasha Tilberg, who seems to be kind of a big deal in the modeling world -- her credits include Fendi, Gucci, Moschino and Versace and she's appeared in Vogue, W and Elle in addition to Marie Claire. According to Wikipedia, she's also an out lesbian and is married to her long-time partner.
Seeing a large tattoo out in the open on a girl in thousand-dollar designer dresses gave me a happy splash of recognition akin to how I felt seeing plus-size model Lizzi Miller's bare belly pooch in Glamour a few years ago. Models! They're just like us!
