Obsessed With: Detachable Collars

When it comes to getting dressed, I'm a big fan of little things that automatically make you look awesome and take 0 effort. It's why I'm kind of a crazy-shoe nut, but it's also why I developed an obsession with detachable collars.

How it started: I first spotted the collar in Miu Miu's spring collection and although at first I thought of it as a novelty item it wasn't long before I started wearing it every day.

How I wear it: I treat it kind of as a necklace. I like to wear it with pretty much everything that has a crew neck. Sweaters, shirts and dresses all get an awesome oomph from this little piece.

Do you need it?: If you love wearing buttondown shirts, like a little sense of humor in your wardrobe and don't have a phobia about having things around your neck all the time then absolutely.

Warnings: Be aware that if you pair your collar with a strapless top or something that shows some skin you could be entering Playboy Bunny territory. I showed a guy friend of mine that pic of me with the red collar and he told me he thought that was something you wore "in the bedroom." (Who knew I had such square friends?)

Where to get one: I was sure that by now these would be widely available but somehow the stores didn't catch on with this brilliant idea so you have two options:

1 DIY
Step 1- Find a collared shirt you like. Step 2- Cut the collar off.
(This is especially good if you want to test it out without spending any cash).

2 Online
Your best bets are Etsy, for cute vintage ones, and new NYC-based label Eleven Objects, who dedicate themselves 100% to the collar cause

No matter which route you take to get to collar nirvana, it's one worth the trek. There's not many  things you can wear that are this fun (and not indecent).
