Rompers and jumpsuits can be a real divisive item in fashion. Not only do they bring to mind toddler fashion to some people, but they do have the potential for disastrous results (just TRY going to a scuzzy bar bathroom wearing one!). Here are four really cute styles that should take you through those tired-ass mornings in the summer all the way through cozy layering in the winter–and beyond.
APC Madras Silk Romper $147.50, Creatures of Comfort.
A short jumpsuit, or romper, is almost a summer staple with a certain demographic in New York City. Although I abhor seeing elastic waistbands of any kind, when it comes to rompers and jumpsuits, a little waist definition is totally essential. You can try wearing a belt over the elasticated part for a more put-together look (and also because elastic waistbands are a bummer!).
Kimchi Blue Crepe Jumper $69, Urban Outfitters.
Jumpsuits are a little easier to wear than rompers –at least in my mind. I love the subtle pleats and loose fit throughout. Throw a light cardigan over it and you can even take this one to work.
Black Contrast Silk Shirt Jumpsuit $60, Topshop.
I love all things button-down: shirts, shirt-dresses and, of course, shirtsuits (I may have made that last one up). This silk number from Topshop is perfect for a more formal affair, pair it with a pair of pumps and a cool blazer and you've got yourself a working woman look!
Stine Goya Birdcage Jumper $219.99, Urban Outfitters.
Ok yes, the child-like vibez that rompers emanate can sometimes be a bummer, but when it comes to this Stine Goya number, that's kinda what's making me love it? There's a sense of relaxed innocence in the off-center placket, contrast buttons and contrasting cuffs that's making me want to live in it this summer even though the last thing I want to do is dress like a kid (I am told I look 14 OFTEN). Ah, the power of jumpsuits.
