I have a fashion crush on anything with a fox on it

Sorry corgis, fashion is fickle and I’m bored of you now – you’ve had your moment and it’s time to step aside for this season’s cutest critter – the fox.

Sorry corgis, fashion is fickle and I’m bored of you now – you’ve had your moment and it’s time to step aside for this season’s cutest critter – the fox.

While I most definitely Do Not Love the foxes who have been violently copulating in my back garden at 4am for the past few nights, I am totally on board with them being this season’s favoured fashion animal mainly because they look cute and in fabric form are quiet... shhh randy foxes! I first noticed a foxy motif emerging at the Hobbs NW3 autumn/winter press day and since then I’ve spotted them everywhere from Etsy to Asos, Burberry and beyond...

So much foxiness at Hobbs NW3! hobbs.co.uk

Foxes work perfectly on autumnal clothes – that rich russet fur makes me think of piles of crunchy red and gold leaves, crisp apples, mists and mellow fruitfulness and all that jazz. Also Fantastic Mr Fox was one of my favourite Roald Dahl stories.

And because I love YOU as much as I love foxes, I’ve got a delightful Tatty Devine fox brooch to give away!

Win me! Tatty Devine fox brooch, £27, tattydevine.com

So here's my pick of the best fox-emblazoned pieces on the high street and online - just add woolly tights and stompy boots for kicking through the aforementioned leaves (dog poo be damned!)

Sugarhill Boutique Foxy chiffon skater dress, £58, asos.com

This sleepy little fellow won't be ripping open any binbags that someone accidentally left outside the front door instead of putting in the bin (it was just the once, honestly), and for that we salute him.

Astley Clarke sleeping fox charm, £75, astleyclarke.com

Cosy jumpers and cardigans look good with jeans and wellies, with skater skirts, hey with corduroy culottes if you fancy it (I think it's time for a culotte revival, don't you?)

Aubin & Wills Portland fox-intarsia wool sweater, £125, net-a-porter.com and Orla Kiely aubergine and dusk pink cardigan, £210, coggles.com

Sugarhill Boutique foxy jumper, £48, asos.com

I love how the fox lends itself to so many different styles, from folksy to art deco...

Flat fox gold ring, £5, dorothyperkins.com, fox ring, £3.50, asos.com, Burberry Accessories gold tone fox bracelet, £395, net-a-porter.com and gold fox head ring, £5.99, newlook.com

Because I am still growing out my stupid fringe, I am highly interested in decorative hairclips at the moment and these are the sweetest.

Fox hair pins by Elizabeth Pawle, £7.19, etsy.com

Ok so to win the Tatty Devine fox brooch, all you have to do is tell me what type of wood this little guy is made from. Email your answer with your name and address to phoebe@xojane.com and put 'Tatty Devine Fox Brooch Competition' in the subject line! The competition closes on Thursday 13 September at midnight.
