'Tis the season for velvet...and hot pants.

I always have so much fun getting dressed during this time of year — sequins, fur, feathers, velvet and lace all co-mingle, jewelry is piled on, silhouettes become more risk-taking and everyone is generally in a good mood, because it's party time!

The way I see it, the holidays mean free reign to be as festive and/or weird as you like.

I've been riding the wave of festive dressing for quite some time now, as evidenced by this shot from many moons ago.

My sister, on the left, doesn't seem to be very much pleased with the beaded purple velvet barrettes she was made to wear. She's also side-eyeing me, adorable toddler! I mostly just seem happy to have been given SO MUCH LACE and an angel to hold.

While I haven't gone near purple velvet in some time (sorry, Prince), I do still love getting dressed up for holiday parties. I recently went to one dressed in Reformation's Ervilla body suit, knee high black leather boots, and a few pieces of vintage jewelry (the belt is a necklace).

Always accessorize with a giant gold initial.

  • How do you choose to dress in festive, holiday spirit?
  • Are you into the Ugly Sweater Party theme or do you prefer something more glamorous?
  • Do you have any funny old holiday family photos like the one I shared above?

Before you hop to answering those questions, let's get inspired by ... you!
How amazing was Shelfie's "Black Friday Black Tie" ensemble? So stunning.

I love all the jewelry, and that fur wrap!

I look forward to seeing your most festive holiday looks!

Also, I wanted to let you all know that I've had a lot of fun sharing Outfit Of The Week with you, but we have so many more ideas for style stories here at xoJane, and I can't wait to discuss them with you. I'll be delving more into personal style and inspiration in the coming months with pieces that go beyond the gamut of straight up outfit posts, and I can't wait for you to join the conversation. Happy holidays, and see you then!
