What Do I Wear To: The Harry Potter Movie

Spoiler Alert! I have never seen or read any of the Harry Potter books/movies.

Hi Laia

I am a teenager who grew up with the Harry Potter books and movies. So my question is: What do I wear to the last movie? Ideally, I'd like something that evokes the spirit of the movie, the kids clothes, the school, and the English/tweedy setting, without being too diehard fan-y/role role playing a character.

Do you think you can help me?

Thank you!

Thank you for writing in, Skye! I may or may not be the least qualified person to help you out with this task as I am one of "the others" as you call us, heathens that have not read the book or seen any of the movies. If you don't call us that then maybe you should start; unless you have a more Harry Potter-y name which is fine too, I guess I just wouldn't know what you were talking about. Anyways, I would say that I keep meaning to watch them and blah blah blah but let's face it, it's been 10 years and my lies are convincing no one.

Now that I've come clean about my Potter Past (not Joey Potter, she was from Dawson's Creek right? Another show I never watched!) I think you should come clean about your Potter Present (see what I did there?).

This is the last time you'll get to go to the movie and enjoy your heroes. It's the end of an era! I say you go out with a bang. Let's face it, the fact that you want to dress up for the movie means you're a pretty big fan; don't try to hide it just cause you're in your late teenage years!  All I know about Harry Potter style is that burgundy and yellow scarf that I always see around wintertime, round glasses and ties! Lot's of ties.

So yeah! A tie is a good place to start. Don't wear it with a tank top though, cause people might think you're going to see Avril Lavigne instead. I guess tucking it into a v-neck sweater would be the most Hogwart's-appropriate outfit. Maybe you can wear a kicky black plaid skirt with your favorite tee. You can channel the schoolgirl spirit in a vaguely 90's  lunchbox-carrying/"Ghost World"-reading-sorta way, so it's not gross.

I want to suggest a cute herringbone jacket with little knee-high socks and black shoes but it's SO hot out! I can't let you die of heat stroke to prove your fandom.

OK maybe I wasn't a big help at all, but you know who will be? Commenters! All yous who have seen the movie and feel the spirit of Hermione running through their veins please help Skye out with her outfit!
