Ask Laia: Can I Wear This 'Fashion' Dress To A Warehouse Party?

Hi Laia!
Please tell me: Where the hell am I supposed to wear this Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair dress? I love it, and it's been sitting in my closet unworn for far too long. For instance, would it be appropriate to wear to a crazy warehouse party in Bushwick, where I'm headed tonight? My guess is no.
thanks!

I got this email on Saturday night, realized its urgency and replied immediately:

Omg that dress is sickkkkk!
Throw on a jacker over it and do like tights (cause its chilly) and some kinda flat boot situash and I think you'll be gollllden. At least that's how I'd do it.

Have fun babe!

What do all those consonants together mean? They mean I was having a good time at my best friend's house playing TV board games (the future!) and drinking beers.

In any case, this is a common conundrum. You buy yourself a super-cool dress that straddles the line of fancy and casual and all of a sudden there is never an occasion fancy enough for it to be worn. And so it stays in your closet, sad and lonely.

Spring (and fall) are the perfect time to take out those dresses for a spin because you can easily dress them down with chunky tights and socks, and maybe even a cool denim jacket. Dressing in contrasts is always an easy way to look cool, if you pair the dress (or a fancy skirt) with items you'd normally wear on your lazy Sunday off you'll perfectly balance the piece and simply look like you. (In the summer if you play it right, you can even get away with wearing Converse sneakers with your snazzy dress or skirt).

The best part is I got an updated outfit pic a few hours later!
