Yes. The holidays cometh. I hate to alarm you, but it's true. Christmas and Hanukkah are just around the corner, waving menacingly at us. You can turn your back and pretend it's not happening, but you KNOW that by this time next month, faint traces of "Jingle Bell Rock" will be wafting around.
It's not all bad, though. Honestly! The holiday season is like, well, it's like Christmas for beauty products. (Sorry, there is no other comparison.) Cosmetics companies go ALL OUT for Christmas, meaning it is the very best time to stock up on fantastic limited edition colors, gift sets and other assorted goodies.
So, I went to my first official event in my capacity as Beauty Editor on Thursday night! I was invited to Mariebelle in Soho -- best hot chocolate in the city, no joke, and one of my favorite all-time hide-outs -- to explore the Too Faced holiday collection. And their new products are even more delicious than the macaron TREES (yes really, macaron trees!), though a little less edible.
What does their holiday collection consist of?
Glamour To Go Spun Sugar Edition is a palm-sized compact containing 8 eye shadows, a highlighter, a lip gloss and a bronzer. BAM! The colors are gorgeous, very party girl, with a lot of shimmery silver and gold. I have an older Glamour To Go palette (the Dream Edition) and it is my go-to everyday for my eyes. Well, it used to be. This one is going to be on heavy rotation, especially as holiday parties start happening.
The Shadow Bon Bons Set is guh-to-the-ORGEOUS. It has 12 eye shadows in a range of colors, from incredibly beautiful pale pinks and purples through to soft and rich browns. There's also a tube of LashGASM mascara (best name ever?) and some Shadow Insurance primer, which everyone should be using. This little package of loveliness comes in a lilac box embossed with gold -- it really does look like a box of chocolates. Almost worth buying for the packaging alone. You can never have enough boxes and tins, I say.
The Love Sweet Love Set is probably my favorite right now, but that's because I have been using it every day since I received it in my goodie bag. (SPOILED!) This set comes zipped into a turquoise velveteen bag, and in addition to 6 eye shadows, a tube of LashGASM and Too Faced's eye shadow primer, you also get a face-smoothing primer, black eyeliner pencil, a face brush, two blushes and two lip glosses. Epic!
This is really the best gift of the bunch I think, because you can basically do your entire face with it. It also has a little booklet showing a couple of different looks you can create with the products, and I love that because it's always nice to have a step-by-step of something new to try! I've been wearing a brown/bronze eye (GASP!), as per their instructions, and it looks KILLER.
The Sweet Indulgence Palette has a $509 value (yes, indeedy!) but is only $52. It contains 16 eye shadows, two blushes, two bronzers, a highlighter, Shadow Insurance primer, a double-ended brush and again, instructions.
The thing I like best about the Too Faced special editions is that they don't skimp on quality. Some people don't know that many collections and massive sets of eye shadow, for example, are actually made with inferior product. For some companies, the only way they're able to make a profit on these big palettes is by using cheaper ingredients. The eye shadow has less pigment or is more difficult to blend, the lipstick doesn't have as much pay-off, and the lip-gloss is junk. But Too Faced doesn't do that, so you get amazing value and fabulous products. Applause!
These would ALL make perfect gifts for your very glamorous girlfriends (or boyfriends), or yourself, of course. God, I am getting holiday-induced anxiety already. Buying gifts is so difficult. What's the best present you've ever given (or received)? We're all going to need your ideas, I think.
P.S. It's not a holiday product, but it's great in winter: Too Faced Caribbean In A Compact in Snow Bunny is the perfect bronzer for pale-skinned girls. I promise.
