How I Narrowed Down My Elaborate Skincare Routine for a Week-Long Vacation

Gotta save as much liquid room for my hair products as possible!

I’ve mentioned a few times in past posts that my skincare routine is quite elaborate, but on my recent vacation, I had to really strip it down in order to meet my liquid limits for my carry on. I'd already switched from liquid to stick foundation to save some room, but here's what I decided to take with me skincare-wise.

I typically use a separate moisturizer for day and night (Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel for day and Caudalie Vinosource Overnight Recovery Oil for night), but I brought this small tube with me to act as both a daytime and nighttime moisturizer to save space. It’s hydrating without being heavy, and it actually worked pretty well under my makeup during the day.

Origins GinZing Eye Cream

I wrote about this a couple of months ago and I still love it. The instant brightening effect it gives me served me well on days when I didn’t want to wear a ton of makeup because of all the walking we were doing.

Peter Thomas Roth Retinol Fusion PM

I was definitely not going to go without retinol for a week, so I packed this one. I wrote about this one a couple of months ago, too, and I like that it doesn’t make my skin feel hypersensitive or irritated.

First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads

Normally, I use these in the daytime and then use some kind of brightening/exfoliating serum in the evening. Since I was trying to save space for more liquids (namely haircare) I decided to just pack these and use them day and night. Since they are in pad form rather than a liquid, I didn’t have to worry about taking up space in my quart-sized bag.

Honey House Naturals Bee Bar Lotion in Hawaiian

This tropical-scented lotion bar was another room-saver when it came to my liquids. It is chock-full of hydrating butters and oils (coconut, shea, cocoa, jojoba, vitamin E, sweet almond) so it kept my hands feeling smooth without being greasy. (And I’m obsessed with having moisturized hands).

I took the Philosophy Purity Made Simple One-Step Facial Cleansing Cloths as opposed to my liquid cleanser (same brand and line) to save even more liquids space. As for the sunscreen, I put my favorite Kiehl’s Super Fluid in a smaller travel bottle because I NEVER go without sunscreen.

  • Do you tend to pare down skincare or makeup more?
  • What do you REFUSE to leave home?
