I basically called my mom for help. Except when I say mom, I mean an esthetician.
One night (or I guess morning, it was around 4:00 a.m.) I was browsing MakeUpAlley for reviews on beauty products. I like to check in there every once in awhile to see what's getting the best ratings so that I know what to seek out, and if I'm considering making a purchase, I'll check there to see if it will be money well-spent.
It's an interesting place for finding hidden gems. For starters, a ton of people there are obsessed with Starbucks' napkins. OBSESSED. But that's not what this article is about. After reading about the napkins, I stumbled upon a review page for the Salux Beauty Skin Cloth and my interest was piqued.
Many of the reviews were 5 stars and raved about the cloth's ability to soften and smooth skin while producing a luxurious lather that got one's body squeaky clean. I was intrigued, especially when I read about people using it to keep ingrown hairs (the bane of my existence!) at bay, and to reduce the appearance of cellulite by boosting circulation. Um, consider me sold.
Then, add in the fact that it was produced by an Asian company and that was the icing on the cake. To me, Asian brands tend to know what's up when it comes to skincare. Consider Shiseido, Shu Uemura and SK-II for example (all oddly beginning with the letter S, just like Salux, hmmm...) and you'll find brands with a history of making our skin look healthier, glowier and younger. Of course the Japanese take something as simple as a wash cloth and knock it out of the damn park.
I started researching and found that you could order the cloths directly from Salux (link on the product page) but I wasn't down to pay the shipping to Canada (it's much cheaper to mail to the U.S., though) so I researched even further and found that a shop here in Toronto, Sanko on Queen Street West, sells the cloths for $5.95. (If you're in the U.S. I would recommend buying directly from Salux, because you know you're getting the patented, prize-winning real deal. Apparently some online stores sell fakes that won't have the same quality and results as Salux's original.)
So, Friday afternoon when I found myself in the neighbourhood, I popped in and picked up a cloth for myself. Taking a hot shower that evening, I got to testing it out.
I quickly wet the cloth and then rubbed a bar of soap over the towel's scrubby surface and then got to scrubbing and lathering. It made a crazy amount of soapy foam that made me feel super-clean, and I found that the cloth's length made it really easy to wash my back.
Feeling my skin in the shower though, I didn't really notice any difference and felt a bit bummed out. "Oh well," I thought as I washed my hair. "At least I'm clean!"
Ah, but I was wrong. As I got out of the shower and toweled off I touched my leg again. Ho. Ly. Crap. My now-dry skin was smoother than a baby's bottom. Wait, I don't regularly feel babies' bottoms, but it was comparable to the feeling of nuzzling a baby bunny. It was SMOOTH.
I then slathered on my favourite body lotion, Mountain Ocean Skin Trip, and did a little dance because I was so pleased.
I've now been using it in my baths and showers every day since, and the results stay the same. I'm soft and silky when I get out, and the scabs and scars I had on my legs from my compulsive skin-picking (woe is me) are starting to smooth out just days thanks to the cloth's gentle exfoliation, which enables my lotion to sink in far better than before.
Plus, I'm now a former body scrub addict. I used to use two, maybe three body scrubs in the shower every day to get my skin soft, but this replaces them all, buffing away dead, dry skin while still being gentle. And, while it is gentle, I wouldn't recommend using it on your delicate facial skin. Or uh, your nether regions. Stick with regular cotton washcloths for that, beauties.
Ladies and gents, I'm in love with the Salux Beauty Skin Cloth, and you should be, too.
P.S. Speaking of bathing, have you entered our super-dreamy LUSH giveaway yet? We're thrilled with the entries so far, and you still have until September 2nd to enter! Xox!
