It's gonna get sappy up in here.
FALL IS HERE, HEAR THE YELL. (I always think of that White Stripes song when fall comes around, because I am arguably nostalgic and totally gay. Also, was it originally done by the White Stripes? I think it was, but I feel like it wasn't. My research into the topic, which consisted of a .02 second Google search told me NOTHING. Tell me in the comments, and also encourage me to stay even remotely on topic.)
I get so annoyed by those people that hate on those of us who love fall. You know the ones. They can’t seem to let go of summer, and they greet you with a giant eye roll if you show up to brunch wearing a scarf or a light jacket. And GOD FORBID they catch you with a Pumpkin Spice Latte.
Well I love fall and everything that comes with it, including but not exclusive to:
Actually maybe pumpkins are all I like about fall, because I’m not very down for chilly weather and I’ve never really understood the point of apple cider and layering gives me panic attacks.
OK, so maybe I only like the idea of fall, but I sure do love a pumpkin!
And did you know that pumpkins have a ton of great benefits for your skin? YEAH! They’re packed with a ton of essential fatty acids that your skin loves to absorb, antioxidants, and vitamins and minerals!
So, autumn haters to the left, because I want to tell you about some pumpkin products that are not only beneficial for your skin, but smell great too. Obviously. Pumpkin is one of my favorite scents of all time, hands down. I could smell like it all year, if I wasn’t too busy smelling like so many other things.
Let’s start off with a nice, nonthreatening body lotion.
Wait, the point I meant to make at the top of this article before I got defensive was that many pumpkin-scented products are not actually pumpkin-scented at all! They’re typically some combination of apple, cinnamon, orange, caramel, coffee, and other warm fall flavors mixed together to make you think you smell pumpkin. Um, deceptive.
Arcona’s is different. One pump of this and you’re smelling legit, spicy pumpkin all day long. The scent is surprisingly potent and it wears great for hours. What sets this lotion apart is not only the scent, but the fact that it is made with real pumpkin extracts and glycolic acid that help improve skin’s tonal quality and elasticity, making it ideal for regenerating cells and repairing sun-damaged skin. It’s not your average body lotion, it’s even better!
I’m covered in it constantly this fall, and you should be, too.
How about a mask?
Open the jar and it looks just like a can of pumpkin puree, which is because pumpkin puree is one of the mask’s main ingredients!
The Pumpkin Enzyme Peel is one big pumpkin party because along with the puree, it’s also made with pumpkin wine, which boots the potency of antioxidants, and pumpkin enzymes, which help break down cellular buildup.
Don’t let the delicious smell fool you -- this is one heavy-duty mask. The concentration of pumpkin helps smooth skin’s surface by accelerating the emergence of healthier cells, improving cell regeneration and repair, and helping to normalize cell turnover.
The peel works to chemically exfoliate your skin from the inside out, breaking down irregular cell buildup, removing dead skin, and making your skin tighter and clearer after only one use. It's pretty thin and goes on a sheer orange. Not that that matters, it's not like you'll be wearing it out. Here's a stupid picture of me wearing it, I mean, how do you model a PEEL?
Next, another mask! But it’s much different than the previous one. See? I can bring you a theme and yet, diversity.
The Splendid Dirt Mask is from Farmhouse Fresh, which brings you a slew of products that are all made with 90%-99.6% natural ingredients. Many of them are vegan, and all are paraben and sulfate free! I’ve said before that I really don’t care about how natural a product is, but it’s kind of cool to know that a mask that smells this delectable is 99% natural.
I love this mask. It’s made with Illite and Bentonite clays which are loaded with nutrients, enzyme-packed pumpkin puree, and yogurt cultures that deep clean pores and promote ~radiance~. The dirt mask is great for minimizing the appearance of pores, calming blotchy skin, and improving uneven skin tones.
The clay combined with pumpkin puree and yogurt cultures give the mask a kind of springy texture in the pot, and it’s thick enough that it’s not going to slide off your face once you have it on. And, holy shit, the smell. It smells like pumpkin ice cream. (Or what I would assume pumpkin ice cream smells like? I’m lactose intolerant.) Pumpkiny, sweet, spicy, it is a DREAM to smear all over your face, believe. I wanted to EAT IT but, you know.
Oh, and it’s described as an “active mask.” When I read that, I was like “k,” but damn, when I put it on, I immediately started to feel the mask making my skin tingle. A strong tingle. I could absolutely feel it working. Like Bikram yoga for your face. OXYGENATING, as the box will tell you. Go ‘head, mask! Clean out my pores!
What's that you say? You want another unflattering picture of me wearing the product? Oh good.
Like other clay masks, you put on a thin layer, wait for it to dry, and then remove it with cool water. Except I didn’t want to take this one off because it really did smell that good. Oh, and also, since it's pretty serious about oxygenating your skin, making it tingle and sort of flush for a minute, the instructions say that you should test it out on a small piece of skin before use, just to ensure that your skin isn't too sensitive..
Or you could be like me and open the pot, sniff, scream, and immediately slather it all over you face.
So, my little gourds, do you love pumpkin as much as I do? Are there pumpkin products that I need to try? BECAUSE I WILL. Tell me everything in the comments. You know I love you.
