5 Holiday Beauty Gift Sets The Recipients Will Actually Use

I'm resisting the temptation to keep these palettes and kits for myself. OK, fine, I'll buy two of each.

It’s happening. Beauty gift sets are everywhere. Every year, I end up hoarding them all for myself and giving friends Sephora gift cards.

This year, I decided to really concentrate. I sifted through the many offerings that produce an almost unbearable level of excitement. More overwhelming than my excitement that the holiday sets are in the stores is my panic that they will disappear for the season before I acquire them all. I swoon when I hear the word “set” and if you add the phrase “limited edition” to it, I can hardly breathe. It must be mine.

But I’ve reached some level of maturity where I have begun to look for colors and products that I will actually use; and yes, I have even purchased sets for others and given them to whom they were intended.

I'm sharing with you a few of my favorites, because as you know, there are hundreds out there. And they aren’t all great.

Benefit Cheeky Sweet Spot Box o' Blushes

Who it's right for: You. And anyone else.

This is a no-brainer. You can’t lose. It’s a great product, a good price point, and adorable packaging. It includes Benefit's famous blushes, Dandelion, Sugarbomb, Coralista, Bella Bamba, Hoola, Rockateur, and their highlighter, Watt's Up!

Stila New Year’s Eve Glam Set

Who it's right for: Your flirtiest friend who loves to party.

This Stila gift set includes a Jewel Eye Shadow in Opal, Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Fiery and Major Major Lash Mascara. It's paired with a yellow gold pave cone bangle by BaubleBar and $10 gift card, housed in a navy clutch.

We all know about the weird clutch that gift sets come with. You pretend as you are being rung up that it is cute and your friend will surely use it. But this one is actually cute, and I suspect she will even use it in real life.

The products are fun -- the eyeshadow is a bit heavy on the glitter, but the lipstick is really pretty and has a great velvety finish. If you really love the friend you are giving this to, you will throw a black eyeliner in there so that she truly has everything she needs.

Tarte Petite Treats 12 Days of Tarte Deluxe Collection

Who it's right for: Your shy friend who is hesitant to play with makeup, or for any hostess of your holiday parties.

This is a really fun treat that anyone would love to receive. There are 12 products, and some are my absolute favorites like the MultiplEYE Lash Enhancing Primer, which I swear by, and the limited-edition Maracuja Oil.

It will definitely be difficult not to sock these away for yourself, but I would choose to give this to a friend who is shy about beauty products -- insist she try whatever is behind the adorable secret doors every day for 12 days.

Laura Mercier Portable Color Palette

Who it's right for: Your busy friend or family member who touches up throughout the day.

The colors in this Laura Mercier palette are simple and pretty, and anyone who receives it will use them all. The size of it is what I love -- it’s the perfect thing to throw in a bag, and it seems special enough for the recipient to feel like she has been gifted something substantial.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Tamanna Palette

Who it's right for: The friend you don’t know so well yet but would love to hang out with more in the new year.

I singled out this palette because of its great price and the fact that not only does it have the nudes that are seemingly the only thing brands make palettes of now, but there are also two pops of color that make things a little more fun.

Venezia can peek out of your smoky eye, or be the only color you wear, and Sangria makes hazel and green eyes look phenomenal.

Are you planning on gifting anyone with a beauty set? Which one would you like to receive?
