Essence Cosmetics Colour & Go Polish in "You Belong To Me" and some delicious Mini-Eggs
I love candy, and I love beauty, so it only seems natural to combine them. I'm still making my way through a bag of chalky, pastel-hued Mini Eggs given to me for Easter (yes, my mother still gives my sister and I Easter baskets even though we're technically "adults") and I am finding the colour of the eggs particularly inspiring.
Plus, "pastels" seem to be a make-up trend for Spring (although beauty trends are pretty cyclical and pale nail polish shades will always be flying off the shelves in April while burgundy lipstick sales will pick up in October, but, I digress ...) so I figured I'd put together a little shopping guide for all of you who are either mourning the loss of the candy you ate over the past week, or simply want to throw something fun into your make-up bag. Let's go!
Barbie Pinks and Juicy-Lookin' Peaches
Dior's Rouge Dior Lipstick in #475
As you've probably seen me mention before, Barbie is one of my ultimate style icons and I am a huge fan of her overwhelming pinkness. Dior's Rouge Dior Lipstick in #475 ($32, sephora.com) [shown above] is one of my favourites for Spring, a pale lilac-y pink that wouldn't look out of place on someone like Nicki Minaj.
However, I think it looks great on a bare face with a thin swipe of liquid liner and and a single coat of black mascara
Another dolly pink shade I'm loving right now is NARS's Blush in Gaiety, a soft pale pink that just makes you look straight-up healthy ($32, narscosmetics.com).
Stila's Lip & Cheek Stain in "Mango Crush"
Peach shades are really lovely, too, and look AWESOME on redheads, especially. Stila's Lip & Cheek Stain in Mango Crush ($24, sephora.com) looks great applied to both the lips and cheeks for an easy, quick look that says "Oh, I was just out for a run and this is totally natural, I swear", except you weren't out for a run because running makes you feel like you're about to die. Or maybe that's just me ...
Bright Pistachios and Fresh Mints
Sue Devitt's Silky Sheen Eye Shadow in "Prague"
This pistachio-coloured Sue Devitt Silky Sheen Eyeshadow in Prague ($18, suedevittbeauty.com) makes me crave macarons and looks really pretty with the Stila lipstain from above.
There's also that great Essence polish up top, a deal at $1 (at drugstores) and it really is quick-drying, which is great because is there anything worse than wasting anywhere from 5-20 minutes waiting for a stupid manicure to dry?
The Whole Shebang
This YSL eye palette offers five of Spring's most cavity-inducing candy-coloured shades, all in one gorgeously chic gold compact ($56, sephora.com). I want one. Or two. You know, it's always safe to have a back-up.
So, whadda ya think? Will you be slapping candy-hued colours on your face for Spring or do they seem too clowny? I myself tend to stick to neutral shades but I'm always up for experimentation every once in awhile. It's all about my mood!
