NIRVANA: The Two New Fragrances By Elizabeth & James Are Totally Your New Spring Scents
Do you guys want to hear a secret that I have never told anybody? It was 2008, the summer before I started my junior year of college. I was begrudgingly getting ready to return to school, so my dad gave me a little money to “buy my books.”
Instead of spending it on textbooks like I was supposed to, I went out and bought “Influence,” the coffee table book/fashion bible by Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. I have never regretted anything less.
I LOVE the Olsen Twins. Growing up in the 90s, I wanted to be them. I still do. From "Full House," to their musical mystery videos, to "Two Of A Kind," the twins had a constant presence in my household. Instead of following the trajectory typically expected of child stars, they established themselves as two of today’s most influential young designers and started four successful lines including The Row, Elizabeth and James, Olsenboye, and StyleMint.
Seriously, If you tried to tell me that anyone is more iconic than Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, you’d be wrong.
This is why I was so excited when I heard that Elizabeth & James was launching their first fragrance, “Nirvana.” Well, fragrances, plural. There’s two!
Elizabeth & James is an exquisite collection all about the duality of feminine detail and masculine silhouettes, so it’s fitting that they created a fragrance for each of those sensibilities.
Nirvana White blends muguet, peony, and musk for a clean, floral, feminine fragrance. I’m not a huge fan of floral scents, but I wore this one for a couple of days and it never once got stale, and I never felt like I was wearing a grandma's perfume. Shout out to grandmas! It’s fresh, young, and doesn’t become overbearing. If you’re a fan of florals, check out Nirvana White. It’s probably your new spring fragrance.
If Nirvana White is the demure, unassuming twin, Nirvana Black is the sexy evil twin who will steal your homework and screw your boyfriend. Needless to say, I LOVE it.
Nirvana Black blends violet, sandalwood, and vanilla for a dark, mysterious, hypnotizing scent that I cannot get enough of. The beauty of this fragrance is found in the way that they take notes that are not uncommon, and balance them perfectly for a very unique scent. The vanilla isn’t taking center stage and making it too sweet. The sandalwood enhances the violet. It’s just so good, and damn, is it sexy.
Elizabeth and James Nirvana will be available exclusively at Sephora starting January 14th.
Have you smelled Nirvana? Which one would you choose? Which Olsen Twin are you? I'm Mary Kate.
