A makeup artist or hairstylist, I am not. But what I lack in school-taught primping skills I make up for with a wealth of knowledge about pretty much all things beauty, from ingredient info to indie brands to the location of the super-secret speakeasy New York City beauty editors meet at for our monthly ritual sacrifice/BBQ.

OK, just kidding about that last part (maybe), but next Thursday, August 4th, more than 20 beauty editors will be at the Saks Fifth Avenue flagship store in NYC for National Beauty Editors Day (I'm as surprised as you are that that's a thing), and no, we're not just getting together for a gigantic shopping movie montage set to "Walking on Sunshine," although that would be kind of amazing. We're actually going to be meeting with folks who want a little beauty advice while helping out a good cause — and you're invited! Woohoo!

If you get one of the first-come-first-serve appointments between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., you can meet with the editor of your choice (*ahem*) for 15 minutes to pester us for advice; after that, you get to meet with someone from your favorite out of 21 beauty brands for a mini-makeover.

Fun, right? But what makes it even better is that proceeds from the $40 registration go to Look Good Feel Better, a program for women with cancer that helps them manage the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment. (Even my dad, who's been through cancer twice in the last five years, got bummed out about his appearance when he was going through chemo and radiation, so I totally understand how much this kind of program can help make someone feel more like their old selves.)

I'd love to see you there — I'm happy to go beyond just recommending a lipstick (but today is National Lipstick Day, after all) — so head to lookgoodfeelbetter.org/register to sign up for an appointment with me (just choose xoVain from the pull-down menu). I mean, you can choose another editor — I won't be offended — but come on! You should totally pick me. I'm awesome.

In the meantime, let's get the comments rolling on this week's Open Thread:

  • What's your favorite lipstick?
  • What's the best beauty advice you've ever gotten?
  • Am I gonna see you next Thursday?!
  • What else is on your mind?
