Anna Wintour was rumored to have once said that women who dare to wear their hair falling into their face are perceived as being more mysterious and sexy, so I've always kept that little tidbit in my pocket for precisely this moment. Why?
Who doesn't want to come across as a bit more seductive and enigmatic? And since I recently overhauled my wardrobe -- plus with it being January and all (a.k.a. the month society deems the perfect time of year to make major changes) -- I figured there's no better time than the present to try out a whole new beauty look, too.
While the signature red lipstick remains, the mane completely changed:
I. Got. Bangs. AND I'm wearing my hair bone straight. Every single day.
I really don't even know who I am right now.
I've always been the girl with the crazy curly hair cascading over the kickass undercut. Now I'm the girl with the eye-skimming fringe who sort of looks like everyone else.
Clearly India.Arie and I have more in common than an amazing first name -- much like the soulful songstress, I'm well aware that I am not my hair either, but I'd be remiss if I didn't mention how it still feels weird to wake up in the morning and see a whole new me in the mirror, rocking a look that I actually have to work to keep it intact.
Translation: I'm used to the wash-and-go look. All of this time-consuming flat-ironing and blow-drying is complete and utter bullshit and I am NOT here for that. Don't mistake it -- I love the way it looks, but I hate how much maintenance a full fringe is. Lucky for me, there's actually a haircare brand dedicated to styling and maintaining bangs.
It's called BangStyle. They've got 14 different SKUs priced between $15-$20 (sadly, it's available at professional salons only), including three different shampoos and conditioners, a thickening gel that helps swell thin strands, and a smoothing lotion -- my new BFF -- that helps keep your straight look sleeker longer. (Say that three times fast!) They also have a cool-ass sea salt spray, which is perfect for those of you who love that beachy-bedhead look.
Oh, and obviously it can and should be used on your entire head of hair. I just love the clever name of the brand! Come to think of it, I never really paid much attention to it until I got bangs. Which I'm guessing is part of their overall marketing strategy. If so, that's slightly genius.
Anyway, two questions: 1) What do you think about my new look, and 2) How many of y'all bitches got bangs? Where's my Bang Brigade? Stand the fuck up!
