Salon quality nails without the salon quality small talk!
I’m getting pretty tired of nail polish disappointment--when you start painting your nails with a new polish, only to feel underwhelmed. Maybe the product is a little lumpy, or the color is so transparent it will take seven coats to make it look solid. Maybe it’s streaky, or not shiny, or worst of all, it takes so long to dry that it smudges on everything and you never actually get to wear it for an entire day.
I’m excited to say that despite my jaded nail lacquer attitude, I was not disappointed when I swiped on my first polish from the new Body Shop collection.
At $8 a pop, Colour Crush Nail Polishes might just be my new favorite thing. They come in 24 beautiful colors, and like Butter London or other more pricey brands, they’re 5-free (no formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, dibutyl phthalate, camphor, or toluene). They’re also high shine, high coverage, and infused with fair trade marula oil to help protect the nail. The best part? The entire line is 100% vegan and cruelty-free, uncommon characteristics in the world of nail polish.
Colour Crush nail polish sounded too good to be true, so I took a whole selection of colors for a test drive to see if they lived up to their impressive promises. I swatched 10 of my favorites from the collection, and I’m happy to report I felt the opposite of nail polish disappointment: I totally had a color crush!
I started off with a group of pastels (I mean, this is me we’re talking about), working from left to right with Mint Cream, Oh Petal, Peach Babe, Cupid Pink, and Minty Amour. They were all the same thick consistency, and had great coverage with only one coat. The polish dried super fast as promised (a big bonus for me), and after a second coat they were shiny and gleaming.
Next I mixed it up with some of the darker shades, including a great sexy blood red and the perfect forest green. From left to right, I tried Crimson Kiss, Relish The Moment, Crazy For Blue, The Body Shop Green, and Gorgeous Grey (no points for name creativity here, sadly.)
Unfortunately, I wasn’t quite as impressed with some of the darker shades as I was the pastels. The grey was much more sheer than I expected with one coat, and the awesome blood red remained a little patchy even after the second coat had dried. However, the Body Shop Green, dark blue, and bright classic red were wonderful, and even though they’re not really my colors, I’d totally wear them again if the mood struck--especially that red.
