Salon quality nails without the salon quality small talk!
Tuesday night, I went to pick up a prescription, which, of course, meant I spent 15 minutes in the cosmetics aisle looking at stuff I already knew existed and hoping something jumped out at me nonetheless. And something did! Maybelline Color Show Polka Dots Nail Lacquer in Dotty, a sheer peachy color with matte black, white and pale peach specks in different sizes.
I put it on as soon as I got home instead of completely forgetting about it, which is what I normally do with cosmetics I purchase with my own money, because that makes perfect sense. One coat looked incomplete. Two still wasn't as dotty as I'd hoped. After the third coat, I wasn't sure if it looked like awesome nail art or an awesome mistake, but I went with it.
On my way into the office Wednesday morning, I stopped into my normal cafe to get coffee. The cashier I got was the woman who, when I get iced coffee, unwraps the straw for me, pops it into the cup and says "Yay!" (It's both creepy and adorable.) This time, however, she said another word: "Halloween?"
I didn't understand it through her accent at first, but then she pointed at my nails. She thought I'd chosen orange-y and black nail polish because of Halloween. I thought that was odd, but I smiled and said, "Oh, no, I just like the colors."
Then, during the xoJane staff meeting a couple hours later, Mandy asked if my nails were in honor of Halloween, too! What the heck?! Halloween is still over a month away! Not that that's ever mattered in advertising or anything; I've already seen Christmas commercials from both Kmart and the Rockettes/Radio City. (I literally yelled "What?!" at the TV when I saw both. IT WASN'T EVEN FALL YET.)
Anyway, even if it were closer to Halloween, I've never really been the type to do my nails in the colors associated with the nearest holiday. I mean, I've never really been the type to do my nails, period. But you know what I mean.
How about you? Quick Question: Do you do holiday-themed nails?
