Of all my bad habits, my weekly manicure addiction is probably the worst. (Some would beg to differ, but that's my story and I'm sticking with it.)
Here I am, getting ready for my weekly fix of Essie Clambake.
But you know how sometimes you walk into a room and get the feeling that people have been talking about you? Well, when I'm getting my nails done at my go-to salon, I get the feeling that the manicurists ARE definitely, 110% talking about me. In the moment and right to my face. In Mandarin--or maybe it's Cantonese--so obviously I can't follow. Just last week they all looked at me, chatted, looked back at me, and laughed. Again.
And can you really blame them? If my days were spent polishing the talons of strangers, over and over and over and over again, I'd probably gossip about them with my friends too.
Does anyone else get that feeling or am I just paranoid? Has this happened to you?* And if you speak Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean or [fill in the language spoken at a salon near you], can you do some eavesdropping and get back to me? Give us your thoughts in the comments below.
*Tavi was just in the office and she said this scenario happened to Elaine in an episode of "Seinfeld." Her solution was to send George's dad, who spoke Korean, to spy. Can you be my Jerry Stiller?
