Look how festive! I want to lick them!

I haven’t done a nail post for a while, because I’ve been busy breaking my teeth and mainlining mince pies. After smashing one of my teeth in half on a roast potato last week (SERIOUSLY WHO DOES THAT?), I decided to distract myself from the £330 root canal treatment I’ve got to have done on the 4th of January (YAY) by prettying up my nails and turning my hands into miniature candy canes.

Ever since I discovered Instagram, I’ve been following the WAH Nails account (@wahnails), and clicking the like button on basically every single photo they put up like a crazy fangirl. The WAH Nails crew do the most insane nail art I’ve seen and recently they’ve been posting some awesome festive designs. I chose to rip off one that is easier than painting tiny little Gremlins and Grinch scenes over them. (People DO THAT! Amazing.) I chose the candy cane nails, and here’s how you can recreate it. When you’re creating Christmas Spotify playlists and eating cheese like it’s about to disappear off the face of the earth, your nails are gonna look SO motherfunkin’ festive.

So -– you’ll need a green and a red polish, and a white nail art pen or a striping tool. I used my favorite red, OPI’s Vodka and Caviar -- the perfect, sexy red and so glossy -– and Don’t Mess With OPI (also by OPI, obvs) which is a great opaque racing green.

Paint your alternate nails red and green. I used three coats, and sealed with a shit ton of Seche Vite so it would dry quickly, because I’m impatient like that.

I’m holding the nail art pen here –- it’s double ended with a nib and a long brush. I find the long brush easier to use.

When the nails dry, you need to get your nail art pen (I used the WAH for Models Own white pen) and with a steady hand, paint lines diagonally across each nail. It looks best if you manage to four stripes on -– I managed three on my thumb and it definitely looks better with four. When dry, seal with a top coat. It is THAT easy!
