Since I'm a visual person I hardly ever remember the album title but I just remember what the album art looks like.
But just because you see other people trying out the trend doesn't mean it's not intimidating to wear it out in public. I'll admit to being fearless when it comes to experimenting with my lipstick in the comfort of my own home, but there are days I still feel hesitant to actually walk the streets with people starring at my bright violet lips.
It's totally possible to find lip products in out-of-the-box colors that won't make people give you weird looks. And even if they do, so what? You look one-thousand-percent confident in whatever you wear as long as you have your head held high and a pep in your step.
I've picked a few of my favorite eye-catching lip products and paired them with one of two makeup looks.
Because the colors are so unusual compared to the typical pinks and reds we're used to seeing, I decided to tone down the rest of my look. I made sure my skin looked flawless by doing a bit of color-correcting with the & Other Stories CC Quad. After I applied my foundation and concealer, I blended my Ilia Multi-Stick in At Last for a natural flush to my cheeks so I wouldn't look too pale with my dark lip colors but I also wouldn't look like I was wearing a ton of makeup. I kept my eyes simple with the pinkish nude shades, Natural Beauty and Force of Nature from the Tarte Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte Eyeshadow Palette.
I ended up with a look that was just enough not to let the lipstick wash me out, but still let my lips be the statement of my face.
I started out with three of my favorite darker, neutral lip products: NYX Cosmetics Wicked Lippie in Trickery, Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in Sebastian, and Make Up For Ever Artist Plexi-Gloss in Black.
This color is a goldish-green that I think is the perfect way to wear a metallic dark lip. It's different from any other color I've seen before and looks awesome when I wear my army-green jacket.
I love that this cement shade has a hint of lavender. It's just enough color so I don't look totally washed out. Plus, I love that the OCC Lip Tars come with a doe foot applicator now so it's easier to apply than with those squeezy tubes.
I like to say this one is black like my soul. The glossy finish is a great way to wear black without going matte. It stays on all da,y and I love how it looks with the blush.
The other three colors I wanted to try were more vibrant, so I added a little color to my entire makeup look rather than sticking with neutral makeup.
When I found Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Backfire I knew I needed to wear it on my lid and under my lash line. I kept the rest of my eye simple with a bit of the shade #tbt in my crease and Swan Song as a highlight from the Sephora Sunbleached Filter Palette. To finish off my colorful look, I grabbed another one of my Urban Decay products; I've been so excited to use the Urban Decay Afterglow 8-Hour Powder Blush in Bittersweet but just hadn't gotten around to it yet so I figured I should give it a shot. Just a little on the apples of my cheeks brightened up my entire face. Now I'm hooked on this blush.
This is probably my favorite blue lipstick to wear out because it doesn't make me look like a Smurf. It's got some purple mixed in and looks great with the purple blush.
Pink it's exactly unexpected, but it is when it's practically neon. I like that it's matte since bright pinks can be a little much when they're loaded with shimmer, and it's a nice pop of color for any skin tone.
I'm a sucker for a purple lipstick. I love the creamy texture and the matte, almost-pastel finish. It's perfect for spring, and I love how it looks with my purple shadow and blush.
These colors may be out of your comfort zone, or they might be exactly what you're into. If you feel confident in your entire look, wearing black or brown or blue lipsticks won't seem like a challenge — they'll just be another part of your lipstick collection.
