Since I'm a visual person I hardly ever remember the album title but I just remember what the album art looks like.
Being a woman with a lot of natural shine to my face, I’ve mostly shied away from shimmery blushes in favor of matte formulas. I’ve always thought that adding a shimmering product on top of my already oily face would just make things worse for me.
Lately, however, I’ve been embracing products that I’ve previously let my skin type stop me from trying and one of those is shimmery blush. Here’s how I apply it.
If a blush I’m using is particularly shimmery (i.e. highly visible sparkle in the pan) I tend to avoid application on the apples of my cheeks. Instead I’ll apply it at an angle, following the line underneath my cheekbones and stop about two finger widths from my nose.
If I still want a bit of color on the apples of my cheeks, I go ahead and add a bit of matte blush there. That way, I don’t have an overabundance of shimmer on the areas of my face that already tend to shine (towards the t-zone).
If the blush I’m using is only moderately shimmery or has finer shimmer particles, I’ll go ahead and apply it like I normally wood from apples to just before my hairline.
I’ve experimented with a few different shimmery blushes, here are four of my favorite formulas.
I like this blush first and foremost because it’s only three bucks. You can’t beat that, right? It’s definitely more on the obviously shimmery side, but I think the pigmentation is really nice because it’s not so heavy that I feel like I am going to overdo it.
This color doesn’t really read rose gold on me, but it is beautiful nonetheless. I love that the shimmer is so subtle that it reads more as a slight sheen than glittery.
Becca Mineral Blush in Wild Honey
Becca products are starting to really infiltrate my stash, and with good reason. This blush is such a perfect warm nude shade on me (it would read a bit more bronze on fairer skin and like a highlight on darker skin), and I love how fine the shimmer is. I also love that it blends very smoothly.
This blush was my gateway into shimmery blushes. When you look at it in the pan, it looks like it’s going to be over-the-top (there is gold shimmer threaded throughout) but it’s the perfect glowy, berry blush and a well-used/loved product in my kit.
Do you prefer matte or shimmery blushes? If you have oily skin, have you avoided shimmery products like I have in the past?
