Rihanna Viva Glam 2 Will Make You Rethink Frosty Metallic Lipstick

I never thought I would like metallic mauve lipstick--until now.

Simply titled Rihanna Viva Glam 2, MAC released Rihanna’s second Viva Glam collection last week.

As you all know, Rihanna has a long history with MAC. How could anyone forget her summer, fall, and holiday RiRi Hearts MAC collections, which people waited in snaking lines to buy? (Remember when I waited in the cold outside of Macy’s for that holiday collection? It was worth it.)

I’ve always adored MAC’s Viva Glam collections, both for the colors and the cause: every cent spent on a Viva Glam product goes toward women, men, and children living with HIV and AIDS.

After I saw this collection’s ad campaign--the one with Rihanna working that green wig--I had to try her frosted mauve lip color for myself. The lipstick is a metallic copper with a frost finish and a hint of sparkle, and the lipglass is a gloss with a red shimmer frost finish.

I never thought I'd wear a metallic lipstick, and I damn sure didn't have any plans to revisit the brownish copper colors of the '90s. But to my surprise, this duo is everything I needed to round out my fall lip rotation.

The lipglass is more iridescent--one layer leaves bit of sparkle on my skin tone, but no color.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from wearing previous Viva Glam lippies, it's that it's always best to layer the lipstick and the lipglass. Does anyone remember the Lady Gaga Viva Glam lipstick? Both the lipstick and lipglass were a soft pink, but the result was much more pigmented when the two were worn together.

The same goes for this collection. I could get away with wearing each product alone, but I enjoy the look of the two layered. I would, however, suggest applying the lipglass very faintly. Depending on your skin tone, you could be walking around with a shiny heavy metal mouth. But maybe that's your thing, in which case, go you.

Does Rihanna wearing a green wig put you in the mood to try a metallic lip? What’s your favorite Viva Glam collection?
