I'm Using Revlon Lip Butters As Eyeshadow

I love cream eyeshadow, but I can't spend any money right now. Turns out one of my favorite lip products is totally a multitasker.

I’ve never been a fan of eyeshadow. I just don’t like the way it looks on me--especially dark eyeshadow. I feel like it makes me look like I’m trying too hard, as well as making my eyes look smaller and more hooded, if that’s possible. So I never use eyeshadow in my usual makeup routine.

However, I really liked those e.l.f. Jumbo Eyeshadow Sticks, and it made me realize that maybe I’ve just been using the wrong kind of eyeshadow. Sheer cream eyeshadows seem to be way more doable for me.

Unfortunately, I’m on such a budget for the rest of the summer that I can’t really run out and buy more cream eyeshadows--not even the $2 e.l.f. ones. Because, let’s be honest: once you set foot in Target, you’re going to spend a lot more than $2.

Instead, I decided to experiment with what I already had.

Hmmm, I thought to myself. What do I have in a variety of shades that is sheer, creamy, and easy to apply?

If you guessed Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter, you don’t win anything except for my suspicion that you share my weird obsession. I probably have at least eight of these lying around, but I gathered up four that I could find to try out on my eyelids.

Of course, these aren’t made for your eyes, so you should exercise caution if you decide to try this too. I dispelled any inner doubts by reasoning to myself that they have to be safe enough to go on your lips, and anyway, at least it’s not as bad as putting Sharpie around your eyes.

I tried out Strawberry Shortcake (a bright pink), Tutti Frutti (which varies from coral to bright orange), Candy Apple (a bright, slightly orange red), and Berry Smoothie (a fuschia pink with shimmer). Of these four, two were completely ridiculous and did not deserve to be photographed.

As I expected, red eyeshadow does not do much for me, so Candy Apple was out. I gave Berry Smoothie a half-hearted shot despite never wearing it on my lips (too much shimmer and a weird color) but quickly wiped it off once I realized it wasn’t going to fare much better on my eyelids.

I LOVED how Strawberry Shortcake looked, however.

This is kind of surprising because I don’t consider myself a pink eyeshadow kind of girl, but I thought it looked pretty with my blue-green eyes.

Make sure you use a primer first with these. I did find that they settled into my creases a bit, but I have that problem with literally everything ever.

I then tried using Tutti Frutti on its own. Astonishingly, bright orange eyelids was not a flattering look for me. However, I had the idea to blend it with Strawberry Shortcake for a graduated pink/coral color.

It turned out to be a very pretty combination. It reminds me of sunsets. If you want someone to look deep into your eyes and say, “Wow, it looks like the sun setting over the ocean,” then you should try wearing this. I’m not saying that this makeup actually made anyone say that to me; I’m just saying that my boyfriend missed a golden opportunity. His fault, not the product’s.

You can play around with it yourself if you end up doing this, but I just applied the pink to the inner and middle of my eyelids, then applied the orange to the outer half and blended them together with my finger. Very easy. I might add more orange next time.

I just found out that Revlon has four new Lip Butter shades: Wild Watermelon, Juicy Papaya, Sorbet and Pink Lemonade so obviously I have to try these now, too. Maybe after I buy these, I’ll finally start to look like Emma Stone. Except that she probably doesn’t put these on her eyelids... and I also just remembered that the whole point of this was to save money.

Oh well. Let me know if you’ll try this or if you think I’m a little crazy. Are you guys hungry now? Between those Lip Butter names and that cupcake background, I need to go find something very sugary and pink to eat now. I wonder if pink cronuts is a thing.
