LOTW: Raise Your Hand If You Love Lupita Nyong’o

Because imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Lupita Nyong’o will forever be my #WCW. Something about her spirit is just timelessly beautiful to me.

When I read that she'd been dubbed Glamour Magazine's Woman of the Year, I knew I wanted to recreate her 2014 Oscar beauty for today's Look of the Week. Since I'm not planning on going to the Oscars any time soon, I adapted the look to wear to work.

EYES

Lupita’s shadow is just a wash of gray, so after filling in my brows and priming my lids, I took a fluffy eye shadow blending brush and lightly dusted on the shade Mugshot from the Naked 3 Palette. Any sort of taupe/gray color will do, I just like that this one has a slight rose tint.

What I also like about Lupita's look is that she has very subtle winged liner. So I started by lining my lids with Jordana 12 HR Made To Last Liquid Eyeliner in Black.

Next, I took an angled liner brush, dipped it in a dark brown shadow (I used Shea Moisture Shadow Pan in Claudia), and smudged out the line, using the pointed end to extend it into a wing.

And of course I topped it with a couple of coats of mascara.

FACE & LIPS

To get that healthy glow that Lupita is ALWAYS in possession of, I used Bare Minerals Serum Foundation and dusted a mixture of MAC Blush in Gingerly and Milani Baked Blush in Rose D’oro on my cheeks.

For the lips, I wanted to do a muted version of Lupita’s coral look, so I layered Glo Minerals Lipstick in Siren underneath Soap and Glory’s Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick in Nudist.

SWATCHES

Lupita’s not my only inspiration this week: you guys were looking beautiful in last week's LOTW comments!

Now it’s your turn to show me some face (or hair, or nails!) in the comments. You can also tag me on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook. Don’t forget to also tag @xovain and #xolotw.

  • Who would be your "Woman of the Year"? (She doesn't have to be an actress, or even famous.)
  • Do you love Lupita as much as I do?
