I'm Faking a Fresh-Faced Look with the Help of These New Launches

New to stores, new to my face.

I'm all about trying to new beauty products, especially when they make my face look and feel hydrated and refreshed. And I'm not going to lie: I'm sometimes neither of those things, especially when I'm writing on deadline late into the night or stressed about a million other things I need to take care of at any given time.

What these products have in common is a) their ability to help me "fake" that refreshed look, and b) they're new to the beauty scene.

Juice Beauty Phyto-Pigments Illuminating Primer

This is a base primer that not only preps your skin for makeup, but moisturizes in the process. It's loaded up with a variety of natural ingredients, including aloe juice, coconut alkanes, grapeseed oil, sunflower seed oil, and others. It also has a touch of shimmer in it without being sparkly.

I actually like to mix it with my BB cream (I use Skin79's Pink tube) and apply it that way. I find that the primer provides an illuminating, super-hydrated finish, and it keeps my makeup in place.

La Prairie Lotus Glow Cellular Radiance Blush

I have a tendency to reach for cream-based products, so it makes sense that I'm a fan of this La Prairie blush. It's a thinner formulation than other cream blushes. In fact, it feels almost like a stain-meets-cream. I've used it on my lips, as well, and it creates a stained, slightly flushed finish.

At $70 it's a serious splurge, and may make a better wish list item than personal purchase, but I wanted to include it because I'm so impressed with the quality. This blush is so, so, so pigmented and only requires the tiniest dab to add color to your whole cheek.

Benefit Dandelion Shy Beam

This is one of several new products from Benefit this spring, and I've chosen to showcase this one because it's so different from other products on the market right now. It's a highlighter, but it's a matte highlighter, so you get a non-shimmery finish that still illuminates. In terms of color, it's very light and slightly pink-leaning and shows up even on my ridiculously pale skin.

It's hard to showcase the results in pictures, but it creates a slightly bright/illuminated, matte finish. I give it an A+ for blendability.

For eyes, I kept things pretty simple. I first applied a light coat of Modern Minerals Makeup Infused Eyeshadow Spheres in Pink Sand to my lids and blended it out. This was actually an item in my La Ritzy box, which has a cruelty-free and vegan theme. I find that the color is very sheer, so you'll want to do several coats to build up opacity. I appreciate that it's infused with vitamin E extract, rose petals and honeysuckle, and it does have a nice, subtle shimmer to it.

I also applied a cat eye with Son & Park True Black Eye Pen and then added a couple coats of Too Cool For School Dinoplatz Twisty Tail Mascara to my lashes. The eyeliner has a felt tip, is really easy to use, and stays put all day. It's better than most eyeliners I've tried (including a couple new ones that I considered for this post), and may be the perfect option for those of you who typically struggle with liquid eyeliner but haven't given up all hope.

The mascara creates a natural finish, and its ability to transform into a super bent wand makes for easier application and fewer mistakes.

ISH Contour Kit

This isn't just a new product, it's a new brand. ISH stands for#IMSMOKINGHOT (survey is still out regarding my feelings about the name) and is a collaboration between Joey Maalouf and FabFitFun. The contour kit comes in light/medium and medium/dark, and I find it pretty easy to use. The pigmentation allows you to build intensity slowly, thereby preventing a potential contour fiasco.

Fun fact: I have a friend whose boyfriend pointed out the "dirt on her face" after a particularly poor application attempt.

This Essence Liquid Lipstick actually isn't super new, but I just love it so much. It's also only $3.50, and I own every single color if that tells you anything. Note that it leans more gloss-like than a true liquid lipstick, but it does pack color. This is their pale pink shade called Colour Party.
