Since I'm a visual person I hardly ever remember the album title but I just remember what the album art looks like.
Not to whine, but summer '14 in Toronto hasn't been very summery. Only a couple of days have been hot enough for swimming, and I've worn pants and a sweater just about every night to keep from shivering. It feels more like a warm spring than summer.
Flipping my wall calendar to August, the last real month of summer, was kind of a bummer, but finally getting my hands on Bobbi Brown’s new limited edition Surf & Sand Collection was a nice silver lining.
This mid-summer release is full of peachy, golden, and glimmering shades. There are two limited edition eye shadow palettes, two limited edition brightening blushes, four new shades of sheer lip color, and a few other special releases, like a Beach perfume rollerball and a new long-wear eye pencil. Basically, the line has everything you need to look like a beach goddess (without jetting off to St. Tropez) well into winter.
Here's What I did With It:
As a base for my Surf & Sand look, I applied Philosophy Hope in a Jar SPF 25 (because every season is sunscreen season!) and Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer.
Then I started in with the Bobbi Brown products, giving my skin a warm pink glow with the Pink Brightening Blush. The three tones in the blush range from matte coral-pink (the largest color block) to shimmery pink to highlighting white. When combined on a brush and blended, the result is warm, pearly, and slightly pink.
With my skin beach-y and fresh, I started on my eyes. The Sand Shadow Palette is probably my favorite piece from this collection because the gold tones are so subtle and soft. The shadows themselves have incredible setting and staying power. Inspired by actual sand, there are mellow neutrals and seriously glittery golds.
After shadow, I lined my eyes with the collection's Long Wear Eye Pencil in Bronze, a dark chocolate brown with a hint of warm shimmer. This new pencil design is based on Bobbi's beloved long-wear gel eyeliner--known for being buttery, smooth, highly pigmented, and totally smudge-proof. It gave my golden eye look a sexy twist for evening.
Now for the crowning touch: lip color. There are four new Sheer Lip Colors in Surf & Sand, but my two favorites are Pink Taffy, a light, peachy coral with a smidgen of gold glitter, and Sunlit Pink, a dark bronze loaded with gold sparkles. Infused with butters and oils to keep lips hydrated during a long day at the beach, the formula gives a slightly shiny yet natural-looking wash of color.
Of course I also gave myself a good misting of BB’s famous Beach perfume, now available in rollerball.
Have you peeped this collection in stores yet? Thinking of buying anything? How are you soaking up these last weeks of summer?!
