Since I'm a visual person I hardly ever remember the album title but I just remember what the album art looks like.
Quick survey: Raise your hand if you’ve ever had a nasty zit that took days or even weeks to go away, and when it finally did kick the can, you were left with scarring in its place.
Now don’t hate me for saying this, but I actually never have. Well, not on my face, at least. But before you click away thinking, Why is this bitch surveying us then?! allow me to explain.
I have a rare genetic skin condition termed Netherton Syndrome, which often leaves me with some pretty rough flare-ups all over my body. So hot, I know. And it’s actually quite similar to acne breakouts in that when my skin finally “heals,” I’m left with unfortunate hyperpigmentation in its place. The dark spots usually only affect my legs, which I find very odd and equally irritating because hello, summer. SHORTS! DRESSES! ETC!
But enough with my pity party (unless you guys want to join—I serve various dips and an assortment of cookies). I’ve learned to deal with it, as one does, and instead of feeling sorry for myself, I tried to find a solution to this ish (short for issue).
So, without further ado, these are the two products that have been giving me the confidence to flaunt my gams. Anytime. Anywhere. In anything.
I was always hesitant to try a body foundation, assuming it would just be cakey and visible, but after a few weeks of my hyperpigmentation not budging, I figured what do I have to lose?
I chose this one by Dermablend because it’s well-known and had fab reviews. My opinion? It doesn’t disappoint. With medium coverage and a natural finish, it worked to conceal the scarring almost completely, and unless you look REALLY closely, you can’t tell it’s there. And it didn’t transfer onto any of my clothing!
I’m in the shade Sun Tan, which blended seamlessly into my natural skin tone and even added a little boost of color to my pale limbs. If you’re also looking for something lightweight that will cover any scars, varicose veins, or minor rashes, I would definitely give this one a go.
Becca Luminous Body Perfecting Mousse
I absolutely adore Becca as a brand—their highlighters are my freakin’ favorite—and if you haven’t tried them, you MUST. So when I saw this product that claims to blur imperfections, even skin tone and add a bronzy glow, I was immediately all over it.
It may seem like an unnecessary step, but I like to apply a light layer after I’ve used the Dermablend because I find it enhances my skin tone and makes my legs match perfectly to the rest of my body, which is a bit tanner at the moment. This is also an amazing option for those of you who aren’t crazy about self-tanning, but would like a subtle and temporary bronzy tint that applies with zero smell or risk of streakiness.
This is the ultra-simple routine (it literally takes two minutes) that makes me feel 100% more confident showing off my legs, even in broad daylight. I’m cuh-razy, guys, I know.
