If you still consider a strong eye and strong lip combo "rebellious."
The holidays are my favorite time of year. I have so many excuses to wear sparkly dresses, and for a brief few weeks the world actually feels as magical as I imagine it to be. Oh, and let’s not forget the best part: the gifts!
So you may be thinking, “what on earth is a glitter girl, you weirdo?” Glitter girls love all things pastel, pink, and sparkly. Our homes are decorated with pinatas and confetti, and every once in a while we eat cake for breakfast. Sound hard to buy for? For just that reason, I’ve compiled a gift guide based on my own favorites that’s sure to leave any true glitter girl swooning.
Silver and gold are classic Christmas colors, especially for those of us who aren’t really fans of red, and these polishes are hands down the best shimmering metallics I’ve ever seen. These formulas are 100% vegan and cruelty-free, and their coverage is so good that it’s almost like you’ve dipped your fingers in melted metal--after only one coat!
2. Ban.do Flash Bobbi Set ($10)
Every holiday hairstyle needs a bit of sparkle, and these super pretty hair pins are just the team for the job. Sold in all different colors (with cute names like “cantaloupe” and “peony” I might add), there’s a set for everybody, and the packaging is so cute that they can easily double as a gift tag with the addition of a little note jotted on the card stock.
3. MOR Rosebud Lip Macaron ($10)
I’ve been obsessed with MOR ever since I bought a bottle of their Marshmallow Bubble Bath (more on that later) a few years ago. Their products are so indulgent in every way that I’d wager even Marie Antoinette would be a fan, and the names get me every time. Take, for example, the gorgeous little lip balms they’ve chosen to call “Lip Macarons”: they’re infused with beeswax and vitamin E, and they come in the most delightful flavors like Rosebud.
4. Chloe Perfumed Deodorant Spray ($30)
I like to get people luxurious gifts that they would never spend money on themselves, like truffles or cashmere socks, and fancy deodorant definitely falls into that category. This everyday necessity turned luxe product is classy, packaged in perfect pink, and smells like peonies, wood, and honey. Seriously, who wouldn’t want this under their tree?
5. Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Lipstick ($35) in La Diva
Every glitter girl needs a perfect pink lipstick, and in my opinion this shade is the Holy Grail of all things elegant and pretty. A blue-toned hot pink, this color works on all skin tones, feels like velvet on your lips, and has great staying power. And did I mention it’s just so perfectly pink?!
My number one requirement for an apartment is a bathtub. You know why? Because hot baths are the ultimate luxury, especially when paired with a glass of wine and a good book. This tropical dream of a product is the perfect addition to any bath lover’s tubside collection: it’s like a powdered vacation contained in a beautiful glass jar that you can save to use again and again.
7. Catbird Kitten Candle ($32)
You know how Tiffany has built this culture around the blue box? Well I’m like that about Catbird boxes. I’m not ashamed to say I’ve sniffed and shaken presents in the hopes of confirming they're from Catbird, and some years I’ve been lucky enough to tear open the wrapping and find their little black velvet boxes were waiting under the tree for me just like I’d dreamed. Though it’s hard to narrow it down to just one Catbird item, this year I’d have to go with their new limited-edition Kitten candle, a soy wax concoction inspired by the women of Williamsburg that smells like violets, musk, and amber. Oh, and while you’re there you should probably also snap up one of these perfect little heart midi rings too!
