This was the scene at the xoJane offices late yesterday afternoon -- fall lipsticks everywhere.
It's that time of year when almost everyone is looking for a new lip color to bring some "fall" into their beauty wardrobe. I love lipstick. If I need to feel instantly "done," I put on a classic red lip. Easy. But I've been in a very big lipstick rut -- there are basically just variants of one red shade in my makeup bag at the moment.
And I'm bored with it. Plus, it's a new season. The sweaters and the boots are out -- perfect time for a change. Plus, I work in an office filled with cool girls who like to play with makeup, too. And we get to call it work. SCORE.
In an effort to be different this season but stay true to my love of a strong lip, I picked this deep wine/brown mix, NARS Pure Matte Lipstick BLKR 413. It's not so heavy that I can't wear it during the day, but it's deep enough to work on a fancy night out, too.
Emily (who I like to call my beauty twin because we love ALL the same shades of red lipsticks) picked CoverGirl Lip Perfection Lipstick Everlasting 345: "I deliberately selected my shade because it's different from anything I ever wear and I ended up really liking it! It's a nice pigmented berry. Will wear again."
Marci was the only one of us to go for the Chanel (!!) choosing Rouge Allure in Enigmatique. "Would you believe I've never tried a Chanel lipstick before? This color is a perfect everyday red if fire engine/clown nose/bell pepper red feels to bold. It goes on super-smooth and it has just enough brown undertones to prevent it from turning magenta."
Madeline went for something bright, which I loved -- the CoverGirl Queen Collection in Red Raspberry: "My first raspberry lipstick! It's a little intense for me. I'm not sure how often I'll wear it. It makes me feel more intense than sexy."
Emily and I made Olivia try a shade that looked REALLY purple in the tube (CoverGirl Lip Perfection Lip Color in Embrace 335) -- and it looked hot with her coloring. Here's what little O had to say: "I love how deep the color is. I would never choose a purple color EVER. But when I put it on it fit with my dark demeanor, dig it? Also, in the tube it actually looks blueish, which makes me think of Jim Henson for some reason."
So, did we choose wisely? What shades are you wearing for fall? Share your pics in the comments, too, PLEASE.
