I don't wear much jewelry and haven't changed my makeup look (foundation, eyeliner, mascara) for years. Also, I've dyed my hair so many times, it's practically dead now. I really want to update my beauty look ... Zooey Deschanel's is my absolute favorite. Any tips?
Here's my advice: Give your overworked hair a break for now and focus on makeup. It's not that often that a celebrity beauty look is truly attainable at home, but Zooey Deschanel's is actually doable (which totally adds to her girlfriend-y appeal).
I called Jorjee Douglas, Zooey's go-to makeup artist, for the lowdown on how to get Zooey-face without the help of a professional. Like I said, it's insanely easy. Here's the deal:
JULIE: What are the signature elements of a Zooey D beauty look?
Jorjee: We like to call it "Frenchy" -- flawless skin and sexy eyes.
What are Zooey's go-to beauty products?
How can I recreate Zooey's look myself?
For skin, prep with a light moisturizer with sunblock and follow with foundation. I like Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation.
To get Zooey's French Eye, start with a little concealer on the eye and matte with a powder like Rimmel London Stay Matte Pressed Powder. If you're not a pro at liquid liner, try using a pencil as a pattern. Then you can paint the liquid over the template. I like Rimmel London Exaggerate Liquid Liner.
For the cat liner, start on the outer corner of the lash line with a very thin line. Draw on the lash line and stop three quarters into the eye (before you get to the inner eye). Then draw another line building up the thickness to your desire. Finish it off with a mascara like Rimmel London Lash Accelerator.
Voila! C'est tres facile, n'est-pas?
