Even if you can’t afford annual checkups, don’t skip your annual exams and pap smears. It’s nobody’s responsibility but your own to make sure you get taken care of, even if it means being pushy with your healthcare providers.
With this surgery, apparently you have lots of crazy gross things happen as you’re healing, like gross black chunks from the cauterization coming out, and I can’t use tampons or have sex until I am examined and cleared.
I think I audibly heard my oncologist breathe a sigh of relief when I outwardly told him my health was more important than fertility. Based on his reaction, I don't think that happens often.
