Demetria Irwin is a Harlem-based freelance writer/editor who writes about everything from pop culture to politics. Her work has appeared in numerous print and online publications including Jet Magazine, the New York Amsterdam News, the Boston Globe, BlackEnterprise.com, TheGrio.com and CityLimits.org. The Detroit native has a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in urban planning, both from the University of Michigan. She is also an Ancestry.com addict and a lover of all goofy 1980s comedies and TCM films. Demetria volunteers with Girls Write Now, an awesome mentoring organization that pairs professional women writers in NYC with high school girls who are aspiring writers.
